I love Fitzgerald Stadium and as I have plenty of family in the area, I have had the chance to go to games here throughout my life, especially when I was a child. If you stand on the terrace across from the main stand the view of the mountains that tower over Killarney are just amazing, surely the best backdrop to a stadium anywhere in the country.
Kerry have been the most successful count yin Ireland in terms of winning championship campaigns and even though they play some home games in Austin Stack Park in Tralee, Fitzgerald Stadium hosts their bigger summer championships games as well as countless Kerry club championship games.
It is a short walk from the centre of Killlarney where the bars, shops, hotels and cafes abound. Parking can be tricky so arrive early if you are going to a game by car.
Three sides are terraced and you get clear, elevated, unobstructed views. The main stand runs the full length of one side. its a fine grandstand though I don't tend to go there myself, preferring the terrace.
it is not exactly modern, it opened in 1936. Though redeveloped and improved over the years I can't say facilities will blow you away. But it makes up for that in atmosphere and sheer weight of tradition. It holds over 43,000 and it is some place to be for a big game.
Definitely try to see a game if there is one on while you are in town, especially if it is the Kerry county team laying in high summer as it is championship season.

I had a great day out watching Kerry in the Munster Final, however away from the football the facilities are shocking. They have portaloos which were filthy, it was a hot day when we went and someone had pulled out a table and were selling chocolate (Melted) and pop both of which was warm/melted.
Third world countries have better facilities than Kerry GAA do at Fitzgerald stadium.
