- Andy F8 contributionsOutstandingSpent 2 nights in this fantastic city and a good few hours on both nights in this wonderful bar. The bar staff were incredible, bar was rammed but never had to wait long for the Guinness. The music on both nights was amazing, sorry to say could not sing along with too many but many of the other clientele could and did. Atmosphere was 10/10. Bouncer was a lovely fella too and helped me out when I received a heavy deposit from a passing bird, lucky they say. - zannerPalatine, Illinois207 contributionsGreat pub!Busy place and seems to be popular! We were told by a friend to visit this pub and we came one evening when there was a soccer game going on! It was packed!!! By the time we left, there was standing room only! I will say, when we came in there was a "band" of 3 men playing traditional Irish music. always fun to listen to! I'm not sure what time they started, buy they left by the time the game came on the tvs! With as busy as it was, service was great! The only downfall I can comment on was the women's bathroom. The toilets were not flushing and one of the employees was filling the tanks to get them to work. I felt so badly for her! She said it happens often! I know it's probably an old building, but maybe someone needs to come check the plumbing!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 25, 2024
- Declan K10 contributionsOverall a wonderful experienceA trip to Galway is always lovely and a visit to the pub is a must. Taafes pub is at a level that many pubs try to get to but fall way short. Great pints, great music and always busy. What makes it so great though is the staff. Even though they are up to their eyes, you will not be left waiting. Big shout out to Ava, a super bar person and lovely character. Keep it up guys. Proud to be Irish.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 27, 2024

I Was in taffes with my girlfriend and her family having a great time until a bouncer tapped me on the shoulder and told me to leave. I was shocked because I wasnt drunk And the bar man had served me so being drunk clearly wasnt the issue. The young bouncer tried to grab my arm but I told him I would walk out on my own and that i was fine. I then asked the bouncer did i do something wrong and he said no i was fine and continued laughing with the other bouncer. I asked could i go back in and he said no and kept laughing at me. I went to the bar next door and my girlfriend asked the bouncer what was the issue and he said to my girlfriend ask the bar staff can your boyfriend go back in. My girlfriend followed his instructions and when she went back to inform him they were happy to let him back in he started laughing and made a complete fool of her by playing little games with the other bouncer at the door. We are in our 30's and this is the most embarressed i have ever felt in my life and I have never being treated this way before. Luckily the next bar i went to have decent bouncers and i didnt allow it to ruin my night. I was so disapointed of my experience and that young tall bouncer with a beard will be the reason i never step foot in that place again. Hes a bully and likes bullying girls also

Went here for a lunch as a family of 7, really good toasted sandwiches, got the upgrade for a soup which was excellent and only 2 more euros! Good pint of Guinness as well and friendly staff. Well worth a visit, too early for the music but looks an ace place for it.

Cannot begin to explain how terrible of a expiernce I had here , all staff are very clearly undertrained and we’re hopeless . Myself and two friends came here for one drink which was made completely wrong ,as two of us working in a bar we were certain of this . We had to express this mistake to three separate staff members who had absolutely no idea about customer service and were of no help, all of them didn’t even know what the drink was made up of or how to deal with our situation . We eventually asked for a manger as it seemed we were being ignored . The manager proceeded to tell us we gave off “ bad vibes “ and was extremely rude . We dealt this the whole situation in a calm and respectful manner and all we got back was abuse . We ordered another drink after this , draft cider so they couldn’t mess up . It was all fine until we came to pay and seen we were charged for the drinks we took one sip from . Fed up with everything we payed for them and left very very unhappy. Would not recommend this place to anyone and will not return again.

We stopped in for a quick lunch and this place did not disappoint! We ordered sandwiches and Irish coffees- the food and the service were excellent! The decor is what one would expect- quaint, with lots of memorabilia on the walls. I loved it!

From the US, first Irish pub experience. I loved it! Low ceiling and Galway history all over the walls. One of the 14 families of Galways crest on the ceiling. European pubs seems to be much smaller and tighter. Everything in Ireland has been narrower than in the US. Great atmosphere and music, mostly Irish songs, a few popular international songs.

We had lunch here which was fab. We came back in the evening as this place was recommended to us for the live music.
It was a brilliant night. Everyone was so happy and friendly. The music was brilliant and people dancing. Everyone in the pub had a great time. This is a must go to place if your travelling to Galway. Great staff, gorgeous food and the best people ever. We loved it.

I only had time for quick pint but was worth it. Great pub full of Galway GAA memorabilia. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. I had heard of Taafes from the Guinness Guru and was not disappointed. The pint was one of the best I've ever had. My only regret was I couldn't stay longer. If you enjoy high quality guinness in top pub call in at Taafes.

Hi is there an age limit in this pub,as I am travelling in a group, and my niece and her partner are 20 years old,but I believe in some pubs you have to be 21 and over!

Is there parking near the pub? Something that will allow me to stay and enjoy the music without worry of getting a boot? TIA
Written October 2, 2018
Hi Debbie
We don’t have parking on our street(Shop Street) as it’s a pedestrian street but there’s 2 x paid car parks on nearby Market street. Also all the streets either side of Shop Street have free street parking after 6.30pm and meter parking before then.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
