Galway’s Latin Quarter is the ultimate Authentic Irish experience. Going post covid I would recommend booking restaurants/pubs in advance. We booked places and pub hopped, getting starters at each place as food is required to have with drinks at the moment (due to Covid). Live singers on the streets, beautiful buildings and hustle and bustle make it the perfect place to sit outside with a pint of Guinness and people watch!☘️💚

Galway is a city by the sea, it has many things to see, including the famous "gansey", or "guernseys". The Latin Quateer is an area of the arts, where you can often find artists and craftsmen selling their creations by the side of the road. We bought some nice pieces, wshich were Celtic in design, quite inexpensively, including a ring, represeenting "love" or my daughter..

Lots of evidence of Galway’s medieval history within the Latin Quarter area which stretches from the city centre to the Spanish Arch, containing some of the city’s most historic landmarks. It starts at St. Nicholas’ Church it runs through the Saturday market and onto O’Brien’s Bridge. From there it follows the River Corrib down to the Spanish Arch where the Museum is located and then turns back up Middle Street onto Buttermilk Lane where it joins the starting point.
People throng through here to enjoy the live entertainment as they wander through the cobbled streets and the hot spots on Quay Street, full of bars, restaurants and hotels. Galway was due to celebrate the European Capital of Culture 2020 which has been stymied by the pandemic. This is a highlight for many visitors to Galway and one of our favourite quarters in the city.

We stayed in the Latin Quarter with three teenagers- we all had a blast. Unfortunately, our days were full of excursions so we did not get to properly explore the city during daylight hours but had a blast none the less. We are returning summer of 2020 and will spend more time here while staying in the Latin Quarter.

What a fabulous place, lively and busy with people both local and tourists. Some nice shops and plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants. The street performers were very professional from a harpist to singers and a guy perfmorming with a football. Good to wander about and soak up the atmosphere. Grand!

This Latin quarter is simply unforgettable!! 🤩
On every street corner there is an artist, a musician (child or adult), a painter, a singer... 🎨🎻🪈🪕🎤
The music they play is so beautiful and engaging that it's impossible not to stop!
The streets are colorful, narrow, flowery, beautiful, with beautiful buildings! This neighborhood is full of restaurants for every taste!!
Sincerely, I recommend!

Lovely vibe on this street. Visited on a Friday early evening and there was live music playing and the street was placed with people enjoying themselves. Looked to me lots of options for food and drink here though was unable to partake.

Wow, what an amazing place, shops, bars, restaurants and even more pubs lol
Had three full on days here, do some shops or the museum and the bay and historic sights then grab a meal enjoy a drink or two and sit back and watch the people pass by, a great place to chill daytimes and party of a nighttime.
Very friendly people and staff amazing, table service everywhere and many bars were huge and had multiple bars within.
Some amazing history here and fabulous food.

The atmosphere is festive, bars and restaurants are plentiful, and the history is worth well taking in. Spread over a number of lanes you will likely cover the historical and Latin quarter of Galway within a day or two (depending on your pace). It's certainly worth the time to stop by and admire the architecture and quaint shops.

This Old Town section of Galway has a full range of shops, restaurants, and bars to suit all tastes. Plenty of outside dining/drinking space is available, weather permitting. This is a great area to simply stroll to get a feel for this very vibrant part of Galway. The amount of time you spend will certainly vary depending on your interests and any sort of dining/drinking you might do.

Are shops and bars open in the Latin quarter in late November on Sundays?
Written November 13, 2016
I was there in June - some shops were definitely closed up after dinner.
Written November 16, 2016
how late is the area (performers performing) and shops open on Saturday ??
Written June 17, 2016
Most of the small craft and gift shops stay open on Saturdays to 06;00 pm ... I believe in Summer time as it's a lot of tourists , it's really not a problem to do shopping
