We had a full day just to relax and wander around Galway and decided to do this little walk. We started at the Salmon Weir bridge which was incredibly crowded with pedestrians and you could really only walk 1:1 on the very narrow sidewalk. They are in the process of building what looks to be a pedestrian only bridge, but it doesn't look like they're very far along at all.

It was nice to walk along the river and get a sense of what it would feel like to be a resident here--it seemed like most of the people we ran into were not tourists, just folks getting to their next destination. There aren't any historical plaques or anything along the walk if that's what you're looking for, but the views are nice enough and it was a nice break from the crowded latin quarter.

I went on this walk with a friend who knows Galway city, and it was a magical mystery tour for me. We both enjoy spotting different species of bird, and there was plenty to choose from. For a relatively small city, Galway has more than a fair share of kilometres of enjoyable and clean walking paths. Highly recommend, and IT'S FREE!!!

My husband and I travelled by the Riverside Walk with our Gate 1 tour group.
This is a nice place to stroll in Galway city and you will spot numerous fisherman in the streams.
There are some very good pubs and restaurants along this walk.

We LOVE to walk along this path through Galway. It's a free opportunity! I suggest exploring the alleys and open markets on certain days. Be sure to have an umbrella and shoes which will keep your feet dry, as the weather can be uncertain. However, this is certainly worth the stroll in sun or rain. Stop at Monroe's Pub for a quick bite or a pint, then continue on to St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Spanish Arch, or continue on for a much longer walk to Salt Hill area of Galway.

Beautiful walk from the harbour to the big cathedral (which is also worth a visit). Lots of lovely bridges, with riverside fencing and hedges covered in wisteria and morning glory. Last bridge before cathedral is under heavy construction right now, but path is still well marked and diverted to safe walkway.

Sunny day in Galway .... this is just the trick! Stroll along the river and enjoy access to the various cafes and artistic shops nearby. Also some good pubs within easy reach.

Beautiful walk.
A walk with plenty to see.Interesing architecture all along the river/canals.
A walk that would change depending on the weather!
Some people are very lucky to have a riverside house, simply stunning.
Plenty of places to exit/access walk.
If in Galway an absolute must.

This is a lovely walk, spotlessly clean. The Corrib was in full flow. Beautiful sea birds and swans.

Another great spot to view the scenery when you visit Galway on the coast of Ireland. It takes you back in time as you meander along past the ancient homes on the river. Very scenic and interesting indeed.

From the Spanish Arch right to the (Catholic) cathedral, this riverside walk lets you get a breath of fresh air and watch the mighty Corrib rush into the bay. Lots of nooks and crannies to peer into, buildings to admire and stories to mull over. Highly recommended.
