By far the single most memorable, unique, authentic and intellectually-stimulating experience during my 10 day trip in Ireland. Yes, I watched Riverdance in Dublin before visiting Galway. A tomb in the corner of the church served as the stage. I mean, the dancer was literally hopping and tapping away on someone's grave! The performers are all passionate about their art,... More

I recently attended Tunes in the Church and was very impressed. The music was top notch but I have to say Emma O'Sullivan stole the show. Her description of sean nos dancing was interesting but her dancing was incredible. Her high energy and ability to interpret the music demonstrated her boundless talent and energy. She also led a guided tour... More

My friend and I attended a show here and we were very impressed. The setting is a 700 year old church and you get a tour of it during intermission. The night we attended there was a harpist and a father/daughter who played the accordion and concertina. The harpist was happy to answer questions and interacted with the audience. She... More

You have to applaud tunes in the church for putting together some fantastic talent on display, however its the manner in that it is projected where the problem is. Unfortunately the music and dance is almost portrayed as a fairy tale to the onlooking audience, and as they don't know any better, they take it all in. The head dancer... More

I found out about "Tunes in the Church" by mere chance. The owner of the guesthouse I stayed at recommended it, and what a lovely suggestion that turned out to be! On the night of 21 August, therefore, I went to St. Nicholas' Church and had the privilege of listening to (hoping to get the names right) Úna playing the... More

What a wonderful treat to have seen an all star performance of Sean-Nós by Emma O'Sullivan, a master harpist of the highest caliber Úna ní Fhlannagáin, and flautist and fiddler duo from around the world George Gasso and Mayo Yanachi. As if that wasn't enough, a special guest star Sean-Nós dancer with whom I was too mesmerized to write down... More

If you want to get a taste of Irish traditional music while in Galway (or for that matter Ireland), this is a must see. We saw different performers including one of the greats in the field, Charlie Piggott. The acoustics are excellent and the setting intimate. A plus is the opportunity to ask questions directly of the musicians. The concert... More

Highlight of our 2 weeks in Ireland . We had pipes, dance, harp and song and the artists were so talented and genuine - eager to share their joy of music.

It is really worthy. First, the concert is in a precious church. Second, the musicians talks and answers question about their instruments, the origin of the tunes, themselves,... Third, get to see the interaction with the old irish dance. Fourth, you get an explanation tour through the church. And the host was very funny!

Stopped here a couple of nights while in Galway. In August there is a nightly performance ranging from very traditional to newer and eclectic. Enjoyed the musicians insights and sharing about their music and instruments. Fairly early in the evening so don't miss it!
