I guess there are actually two Salmon Weir Bridges. The one for vehicles was built in 1818. This bridge connects the City with the University and points west.
The Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge, which we visited, opened only recently in May, 2023. There is a generous amount of seating available. It was pretty busy with foot and bicycle traffic when we were there.

Salmon Weir Bridge is located in front of the Galway Cathedrals on the Corrib River. It is a Middle Ages bridge, which has beautiful views of the cathedral. In fact, you can also see the river and crooks it, when you visit the religious building coming from the old town. Nice.
