We used that the Eyre Square shopping centre quite a bit for supplies during our visit over the summer. We got accustomed to the layout and the various entrances and exits, with the shops and eateries extending over two floors. The staff were universally helpful and we enjoyed checking out the over 70 stores including Dunnes Stores, XL Newsagents, Penneys, New Look, Virgin Media, and JD Sports, and even Shannon Dry Cleaners. The prices were generally good for both food and clothing with an excellent choice particularly in Dunnes. The one-hour free wifi on offer was sufficient for our purposes.
The shopping centre is very centrally located in the city and seems to be a popular meeting place for young and old alike – however this activity was curtailed when social distancing became a factor. We enjoyed reading about the history of Galway displayed on the medieval walls and discovered that during the 13th century Norman invasion of Ireland, William de Burgh was granted the province of Connacht, and his son Richard de Burgh became the Lord of Connaught in 1235.
There are lifts for those with mobility problems, but the toilets are hard to find be prepared to pay for the pleasure. But overall it's a good place for families, as there’s not a long wait for the food to arrive.

Dunnes Stores is the flagship shop in this shopping mall. There are a number of outlets and offer a wide range of diverse goods and services.The downside is that the toilets are built inside the mall and there is a €0.20 charge to use them! Do they want customers, or what?

It was a rainy day but we still had a great time shopping the streets of Galway. The down side: it was the huge Horse Race of the year and the number of people in the city was staggering. Traffic was a nightmare. But we found some great souveniers and had a nice lunch.

In this mall, see the 2 medieval towers and a section of the town wall which were incorporated into this mall. The 2 towers are located on the ground floor just by the Costa coffee kiosk when one enters from Eyre Square. On the stone medieval wall are several informative posters providing information about the building, expansion, and preservation of the towers and partial city wall through the centuries. It was most unusual to see a mall enclosed around the towers! Both a photo and educational opportunity done in under 20 minutes. There are no signs close by outside indicating this sight in the mall. One has to know about it beforehand from tourist books.

The Eyre Square Shopping Centre in Galway city centre is a cavernous middle-aged structure in terms of its layout and modernity.
Anyway, being somewhat tired and having eventually managed to follow the signage to the toilets, I found that payment was required but I hadn’t any change, hence my annoyance.
It’s rare for shopping centres in Ireland to charge for the use of public toilets and I was surprised and disappointed to find that such a seemingly successful centre would find it necessary to go against this trend.
Possibly if the signs had indicated that payment was required, I could’ve got some change or decided to go elsewhere.
On the scale ‘life’s troubles’, the reason for my annoyance is trivial, but no harm in sharing it.

I have travelled around a lot of Europe and am used to needing to pay to use the restrooms. This usually does not bother me as the bathrooms are usually immaculate. These were not. What are we paying for exactly?

I actually love visiting Eyre Square center during my return trips to Galway. I have no gripe with any of the individual shops or eateries. HOWEVER, my visit is consistently soured by my toilet experience. This year was no different. Of all the facilities I've used during my trip this was definitely the worst. What's even more galling is paying €0.20 for the displeasure. Poor design, minuscule size, lack of ventilation, inappropriate heat, out of order toilets and no hot water. It's not the twenty cent that bothers me it's the fact that I pay for the WORST. In the past I've attempted to juggle winter coat, full shopping bags and toddlers--- it is an almost impossible feat to accomplish in a hygienic manner.
While I appreciate the opportunity to teach my kids the phrase "to spend a Penny" I seriously will be avoiding the Centre in the future! All tenants of this cute mall should be outraged!

The entrance/exit onto Eyre Square greets the shopper with a stairs and no escalator. Perish the thought that people might go shopping with a trolley or buggy. Or a curious visitor from the nearby train/bus station with a wheelie bag should wander in, let alone anyone with mobility problems. There is a lift which embodies the hope that all of those shoppers don't arrive together and need to move at a reasonable rate. They'll probably never know how many people give up at this first hurdle in favour of unencumbered shoppers. Once inside, the layout is an uppy-stairs, downy-stairs, no, wait, where-am-I, matrix perfected in design by someone who never leaves home without a map and fails to understand those who don't. The directional signs are useless (I ended up asking two different employees how to get out) bringing to mind those Vegas casinos with no exit signs so that the gamblers stay for longer. Like everywhere in Galway city centre, there is complete disregard for the human need to spend a penny. Or twenty. Galway either doesn't allow access to its toilets or charges for it. This centre epitomises Galway city in that the people are friendly and welcoming and the shops can be great but it's all spoiled by poor planning and management.

Regular cleaning at the weekend and a maintenance record to be displayed, it's unacceptable to accept such a poor standard of hygiene

great centre loved every bit of it..... pennys marks and spencers, food, quirky shops, all under one roof
