About
Escape room is an interesting and unconventional way to spend free time with friends. Players have limited time to solve a series of puzzles placed in a specially designed room. Look for clues, use objects, solve jigsaws. Any object in the room can matter, but some are just to fool you.

- Daria_G_9308Athenry, Ireland1 contributionGreat experienceIt's been a great experience. We went there as a work Sports & Social club activity. There was a group of 10 of us, with various previous experience and a large age span. We had the two rooms booked at the same time so there was a bit of a healthy competition as to who gets out first. The man in reception was very nice and went over all the safety precautions efficiently. The rooms were great! Very interesting mechanisms used, not only locks and keys. The location of the place is great as it's so central. We had no problem to get to out next location afterwards. I would definitely recommend it. It's great fun for groups and people of all ages.Thank you. We are very glad that you liked our rooms and had a good time.Written December 8, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Written November 26, 2023

The staff member we met who showed us the room, met us at the end, etc was very friendly & welcoming. A great, fun experience. - gcunydance1 contributionLast-Minute Fun in Galway CityMy friend from the U.S. was visiting for the week and we found ourselves in Galway City looking for something to do. We're so happy we found Open The Door! Neither of us had done an escape room before so we opted for the Beginner level (and thank goodness we did because we needed just about all the time to finish!). The young man who checked us in talked us through the rules and made sure we felt comfortable and at ease before getting started. He made sure we understood that if at any point we felt overwhelmed or claustrophobic, we could pause the game, take a breather, and return once we were ready. The level of detail and imagination that went into the rooms truly put us into another world for an hour. Would highly recommend!Thank you very much for the great review.Written May 3, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Written March 15, 2024
- MairHGalway, Ireland12 contributionsGreat fun. Recommended. We went for the intermediate level experience and it was about right as we are not very experienced (3 of us had done one once before and the other two had never done one). We would probably try the hard level next time as we did finish with about 10 minutes to go. We got a couple of clues on the screen and asked for one as we hadn't noticed an exit had been unlocked by our action. There were a good variety of types of clues so it didn't feel at all repetitive. The only negative was that the room was quite dim (deliberately) and I would have preferred it a bit brighter or to have a few more lamps. Apparently the other room they have is brighter. We did Escape from Black Castle. I would recommend it.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 14, 2024

Played both games. Escape the Black Castle was absolutely the most amazing escape room I’ve ever done (I’ve done over 50). The decor was spectacular and the puzzles flowed nicely. Also played the Pirate Ship room and it was also amazing. Again, the decor was beyond imagination. These rooms were conceived and brought to life by the owners (not a chain business), which makes them even more impressive. I can’t say enough good things.

This is a proper escape room! Having been to the ones around Europe my partner and I have been disappointed with Ireland, until now! Ordinarily we have seen just a standard single room, not alot of detail in the decoration or design of the room and limited exploring. But then we found openthedoor by chance. We first did the pirate room and it blew us away ! Also amazing that you can adjust the difficulty level per room . We recently tried the castle black, few technical issues but still amazing and better than any other place we have experienced on the island. Really really hope these guys expand and get more rooms in because they know what they're doing! Just trust me on this , try it !

It was a really easy location to get to, right in the middle of Eyre Square!! Really easy people to get on with and made the experience all about us. Top quality escape room and as a big fan of Game of Thrones, I was really impressed with all the Equipment/Gadgets that were used to help us escape the run. Will defiently be back to try out the rest of the rooms!!!

We (2 adults, 2 children) tried the Pirate's "Treasure from Galway Bay" escape room & we loved it!
Very well setup rooms which create a really cool vibe that match the whole pirate/ship theme.
You definitely need your thinking cap on but it's great fun & a good challenge!
The guy working there was very friendly and super helpful too. Great service!

I am an Escape game builder, also game Master myself, I played like 100 rooms around Europe. So my expectations can be pretty high.
For the price the rooms are pretty OK. Few locks with code. Lot of things to open.
I dont put 3 points to not lower the rooms but I would give a 3,5/5.
First bad point is there is no story before enter like in others on I did. A story to put you in the game by the game Master. You are Just let in the room and a not really immersive voice tell us a bit why we are here. More story and knowing What we have to do with shorts sentences would make the game even better.
Also the game Master Was not really in her job. Game mastering is a big part of the game. Giving People the motivation and the taste of the game. Putting People in a Good mood. But the help Was always when needed.
The second point would be more active puzzles and riddles. So you can feel you are activating the game and not someone Washington behind a screen. In the same Way, more logic in the game. Like you dont do puzzle for doing Just a puzzle but there is a logic reason to do it now in the story of the room. So you feel you are really playing and not Just doing riddles and puzzle one before another till you escape.
I Just let this for the expert like me but if you are a New player go for it and you Will spend Good time.

Thank you for your opinions, we will try to use all tips in our ER, especially since they were given by such an experienced player like you. We just want to mention that there is not a padlock with a code in our rooms.
Thanks again

These rooms where insanely good!! They are some of the most immersive rooms we have ever done if not the most immersive, and we have done a ton! From the moment you step in to any of their rooms you will instantly forget you are in present day Ireland. Me and my wife did these during our honeymoon. Jacob was our game master. He is really nice and we enjoyed talking with him about other rooms we can try in Ireland as we travel around the island. We had so much fun and can’t wait to try out some more.

Being over in Galway during a storm weekend meant that a lot of our plans were not possible. We ended up doing both the black castle and pirate room in open the door. I had only done one escape room before and my boyfriend had never done any. Both rooms were really cool and clever. Definitely have to say the pirate room was the harder one of the two. Great staff and interesting rooms. Would 100% recommend stopping by this one!
