Sunday night ,getting on a bit ,came across the Dame as we came out of the stags head,Family recommended it as a great little pub so in we went.
Nice looking bar and a fair amount of seating with a nice traditional "worn wood" feel.
The bar area was bright and well stocked and the barman was friendly and efficient.
Fair crowd in but the staff started getting ready to close up although it was only 10:15 pm, enjoyed a pint and got another one ,then the bell for sounding the half hour drink up ,most people seemed to leave within 15 minutes and we were just finishing up as next day was a busy day.
The staff were all congregated at the end of the bar chatting and it seems to emphasise that they wanted us to go a young woman ,(bit sour faced), came to the tables next to us and started spraying the furniture with a can like there was no tomorrow.
The hint didn't need to be dropped as we were getting ready to go ,annoying as the older menbers of staff were in a huddle and sniggering .
Wouldn't have been over surprised if we were lingering on but we were basically finishing off the drinks and sorting coats out.
Up until then we were enjoying the surroundings but it spoilt the visit and I personally wouldn't be bothered going back ,there is "failte" out there but was not apparent in this pub , you dont have to go far in Dublin to find a friendlier pub to spend your money in.

My husband and I went to Dublin to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Our last name is Dame so when we came across the Dame Tavern we HAD to go in for a pint. On our first visit we met Colin who was bartending. He is the most likable person you'll ever meet. We had a few pints of Guinness and chatted with Colin and the other patrons. Colin gave us recommendations for bars and restaurants. We were blown away by the friendliness and hospitality of everyone in the bar.
Now, fair warning. Our first visit was at 11:30 am on a Tuesday. There were probably 8 people in the bar at most. If you go back to the bar at night it is bursting with people. Trying to get to the bar and order a drink becomes an Olympic event. The other bartenders are friendly and work hard to get everyone a drink.
My point is have realistic expectations. If you want an experience like we did on our first visit go at the proper time. Otherwise you'll be throwing elbows with the locals to try and get a drink.
My husband and I visited the Dame Tavern at least every other day, both morning, afternoon and nighttime. We loved it. Would highly recommend to anyone who's in Dublin.

At first it seemed a fun friendly pub. My friend in our group found a bank card on the floor we assumed someone had dropped it so handed it to the bar staff another customer found a small empty purse on the floor and also handed that to the bar staff.
My close friend who was the bride to be was swooped up by a local to the pub who was with his girlfriend and father and he did this for a photograph but only after he put on a mask that we all had of the grooms face. He then picked up another of my friend and did the same to her this time without the photograph. The bride to be went to the toilet with another friend in the group after washing her hands she went to get her lipstick form her handbag and noticed her purse missing from her bag. She came back to us to tell us I then looked along the floor in the area we were all standing shining the torch in me phone at the floor. I found the purse and handed it to the bride. She was delighted. We then moved on to another pub and we were all in a kitty for the bar bill so we got our money out for the next round and thats when the bride noticed her cash was gone from her purse. The other friend who had the pooled money in an envelope looked to see how much we had left noticed that this was also gone from her bag. This was the friend who had been picked up by the same local in the pub. So obviously they are professional pick pockets. We were having such a lovely time too. So be warned stay away from The Dame Tavern

What a warm, inviting atmosphere! We walked around the corner and heard a group of men singing old pub songs, and happily came upon the Dame! Once inside, it was fantastic. The locals came over and talked to us like they knew us, we met the owner and he greeted us warmly, and everyone showed us a great time. It really felt like being at a small town pub among friends. Exactly what you want when you come to Dublin! And with the music, it felt like being in a movie!

In Dublin, there is no shortage of pubs so you have plenty of options to choose from! We spent 4 days exploring the city and trying different places and never saw this pub! It wasn’t until our last day we stopped in as it was close to our hotel and were immediately greeted by the owner and each employee separately. They engaged us in conversation and even turned up music when it was a song we enjoyed! Loved the atmosphere, the hospitality, and the drinks. While we were there, they even taught us a bit about horse racing. I would recommend anyone on their visit to stop in and check it out!
