Our seasoned guide Tom set a steady pace and was mindful of everyone in the group. The experience was enhanced by his sharing of local knowledge of the history and flora of the area. Our weather turned woeful but we felt comfortable knowing that Tom was experienced and well trained in mountain navigation. There were 10 in our group and I believe 12 is their max. We will definitely sign up with Mountain trails in the future.

The skills course from start to finish was excellent. Storm Bert played a part in our weekend but didn't dampen the experience. Our leader Russ was brilliant, I felt safe on the course even when the terrain was temperamental with the weather as Russ had given us great teaching and guidance. By the Sunday evening we were all navigating well using our maps and compasses. I would highly recommend this skills course as it was exactly what I was hoping to gain from it. 5 🌟

We are five friends, including two couples, on a two day Mountain Skills 1 course in Wicklow. The course itself is excellent. Russel is more than excellent, extremely knowledgeable, and experienced. He calmly and patiently teaches the skills and passes on great insights into the natural environment. He gives it one hundred per cent and is passionate about it all. We all agree that we got more than we were expecting from this course and we had great fun. We especially feel much safer and more confident in the mountains and appreciate that environment much more. I feel that this course is a must for anyone who goes walking in the hills or mountains, even for people who haven't started hillwalking yet. I would highly recommend this course and especially this provider.

Had a great day out with a hike up Mweelrea led by Russell - the hike was at a good pace (not too fast or too slow!) and was very happy to have such an experienced guide on the day as the clouds descended a few times and visibility was quite low. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing experience. We started with an introductory chat to understand maps and the 5 Ds of navigation. We walked and stopped to discuss about the navigation a few times and also walked on a bearing (compass and map). Russell is patient, engaging and friendly and has loads of knowledge and experience. I absolutely recommend this course to anyone interested in mountain navigation.

Super course, despite the Irish weather. Russ has a wealth of knowledge and experience. The course content was pitched at the right level and his excellent tuition and practical instruction gave me plenty of tools to plan hikes in great depth and improve my mountain safety. Definitely planning on signing up for the MS2 in the future.

Just back from a superb weekend hiking in Snowdonia. It's our second trip with Mountain Trails with Russ and Darren. The accommodation and organization was first class and the whole weekend was a smooth ride. In particular the accommodation at Dol Peris house was outstanding.It was great to come back to such comfortable lodgings after a days hiking. The highlight of the weekend was the Hiking - 3 x varied walks/hikes with great variety i.e. hiking and scrambling. Throughout the weekend we were also given some hiking tips and local information on Slate mining and other local flora and fauna.

I did the mountain skills 1 course with Mountain Trails and loved it! Russ was a great teacher - really knowledge and made everyone in the group feel very comfortable. I learnt so much from the weekend, some really practical skills that I know I will actually use hiking. Would absolutely recommend the course with Russ and the weekend has made me want to do mountain skills 2 now too!

I had the absolute pleasure of being lucky enough to attend one of Russ's Snowdonia hiking weekends (3 days) in early October 2022.
This was my fourth time using Russ's really excellent value for money Mountain Trails guiding company and once again I wasn't disappointed.
From initial booking, to later full payment and communication throughout I couldn't fault it. The travel to and from Wales was effortless and all arranged by Russ, even the accommodation itself was first class.
The arranged and fully guided hikes were simply superb, the views and routes were spectacular with really great variation on each of the three days. From conversations with other group members, it was obvious that everyone was equally impressed and that there really was something for everyone,
If you are looking for experienced and fully qualified guiding from one of life's gentlemen, then look no further than Russ at the really excellent Dublin based Mountain Trails - you won't be disappointed.

At very reasonable cost the professionals plan your trip, book your accommodation, book your ferry , transport you to your hiking venue, lead you round the hills and mountains, and give you good options for when the weather turns a bit wet. All in a group of like minded people. The result is an experience way better than trying to do it solo. And very rewarding. I would recommend this to anyone,
