Highly recommend both the south and north side walking tours which can be taken on the same day. Our guide Ritchie provided great insights and information on interesting and historical places and sites in Dublin city centre. Also he took the time to recommend places worth visiting in more detail and general advice on places to eat and drink. This tour is free but you won’t want to leave without tipping your guide for the experience.

I can fully recommend this free walking tour especially, if like me, it is your first time in Dublin, an so not familiar with the local area.
It is a great experience and insight into Dublin and it also helps you familiarise yourself with the streets in which you will no doubt be walking down at some point.
The tour guide was a nice chap by the name of James, who made the tour very informative as well as comedic in places. He was also very open to any questions that you may have.
The meeting point for this tour is at the Spire monument on O'Connell Street - you cannot miss the Spire as it is a Silver 120 metre high spike typed object sticking out of the ground. And the tour guides are holding yellow umbrellas.
If you do, go on this free walking tour, be prepared to walk as i covered about 4/5 miles in the 2 an half/3 hours, which was a nice little workout as i love walking.
You take a 15 minute break about halfway though the tour in the Temple Bar area, whereby you are free to disperse for a coffee, or to take photos etc at your own free will.
The group that i was on the tour with had about 20 people in it from all over the world, a good mix of people.
The tour starts at the Spire, and ends at Dublin Castle.

We literally ran into Alan’s tour outside of the Dublin Castle on Sunday afternoon, intrigued by the small group surrounding a curly haired guy with a turquoise umbrella, were invited to join, and for the next two and a half hours were entertained and charmed by Alan’s passion for his city, his country and his culture. A terrific tour - knowledgeable, a tad sacrilegious, and highly entertaining. Can’t recommend enough!

Patrick H. was our tour guide. He gave a very authentic, passionate guide of Dublin. With witty commentary about Dublin and Ireland's history and loads of tips about where to go and what to avoid as a tourist. He was generally very helpful towards his audience. All in all it was a huge help during our weekend visit to Dublin. I'd definitely recommend taking this tour the day you arrive in the city to get a lay of the land and decide what to visit during your stay. 👌

South Side Free Walking Tour with Peter was informative and well paced. All the members of our group asked pertinent questions at various stops and Peter answered all of them. He started on time, included interesting anecdotes besides providing us with the history and dates of important events. He pointed us in the right direction to visit museums and other places of interest at the end of the three hours. We certainly enjoyed this morning tour and recommend it to anyone looking for a taste of Dublin’s South side.

We loved every minute of our tour with David who was a captivating host. Very illuminating we learned so much not just about Dublin history but its spirit and character too. Very refreshing to hear a more personal take on a city rather than the usual commercial spiel you hear on often pricier tours. We later that day went on another history tour we paid for and it wasn’t a patch on this one! Highly recommend

We have just taken the walking tour with Peter. I like a bargain and it was pay what you think it was worth, so we gave it a go. I learnt such a lot about Dublin and Irish history over the three hours. Peter was a local man who spoke nice and loud which meant everyone could hear him, (even us nearly pensioners 😀). He was happy to take questions and also pointed out places to go in the local area once the tour finished. This is my 1st walking tour, it was amazing, I highly recommend this, and it could have been FREE no pushy talk but we did give a tip, not as much as we thought it was worth (or we would be bankrupt!) Give it a go, you have nothing to loose.

I had one day for a tour in Belfast and a limited budget, so thought I'd attend the Free Walking Tour and then leave a tip to support the guide (as a tour guide myself I know how much the support is needed). At the start of the tour the guide (Brian W) mentioned people should try avoid using their phones for messaging etc, and enjoy the tour. Since I was very interested in what he had to say I was using my phone to take notes. At one point he stopped his talk and rudely asked me to stop using my phone. I politely responded and explained exactly that - I was taking notes as I struggle to remember things. 20 minutes later, he again and more rudely asked if I wanted him to throw my phone in the river. As a guide myself, I'd never speak to a guest in such a rude and embarrassing way - particularly in front of other guests. There were also some underhanded comments made about several other people we walked past, which I thought was unprofessional. Hopefully others won't have this same experience, and be able to enjoy what could have otherwise been, a great tour

I've attended a lot of free walking tours in every city I visit, but I must admit this one was one of the best. And that was possible thanks to James, who is an amazing guide. He told us a lot of interesting stories about Ireland's and Dublin's history, culture and people. He knew how to keep us engaged, he told us lots of jokes and he also gave us useful tips and tricks. So, Dublin Free Walking Tour you are lucky to have such passionate guides like James.

Our tour guide was Martin, a true Dubliner, born and raised with generations of his family living in Dublin. We did the south side tour on a dreary and misty day, but Martin really kept the energy going with his enthusiastic storytelling and hilarious jokes. We had a group from all over the world and Martin kept everyone engaged while making sure there was enough time for photos and questions. We knew some Irish history beforehand but it was still great hearing it told from a Dubliner. Martin also runs several other tours with this company, so you may be lucky enough to have him take you around his home city more than once. It was truly one of the best walking tours I have taken in Europe.

The online booking process was simple and this was the only tour we saw that started at 10am, as most start at 11am. It was approximately 2h30m, with a 15-min break at Temple Bar. The guides carry yellow umbrellas and are easy to find. It does cost 3 euro per person to book, but we believe this was to cover online processing and to hold the reservation. Most other tour companies will actually charge this to the tour guide so we appreciate and assume that they did not do this. Overall, we highly recommend this company and hope to check out another tour soon!
