I bought a Xmas Yule log from Fallon & Byrne for €18.95 - a complete rip-off!!! It was a block of butter with cocoa flavouring...... Only 24% of the log was cake....................................... My family and I could not eat it - it was absolutely disgusting. This grocer-come-restaurant is a treat in the heart of Dublin and a sure sign of the boom time in Ireland. We ordered the vodka and dill salmon and beetroot and goats cheese for starter sea bass for our mains. Everything was served beautifully and piping hot to our table. We really enjoyed our experience except the service was a little slower than what a lazy lunch should be despite it not being busy or understaffed. We left feeling uncomfortable when it came to the bill. We had to ask for our change back (it wasn’t insignificant), we felt they assumed we were leaving all of it. This to us was a big ‘no-no’, it is up to us to decide how much to tip and we ended up not tipping, disappointing as we really like the Italian waitress who was great. …
