The Newmarket area dates back some 400 years and over the last 15 it has been subject to a rather attractive face lift. The flea market is a welcome addition to the stable of other interesting retail options. You will find new and second hand, retro, quirky and household and something for every budget. Depending on the time of year you will also find hot food, drink and sometimes even music.

I've been meaning to go to the Flea market for ages, but never bothered committing to the last Sunday of the month!
I haven't been to other "Flea" markets per se, but it did feel like it was just a hipster market selling random bric-a-brac. I didn't feel drawn to any particular stalls and anything I did see that I liked I felt was overpriced for what it was, so I ended up leaving empty handed.
I think this may be the type of place you need to come regularly to see what's in and maybe even get to know the best stalls to go to, but it wasn't as good as I was expecting on the first visit.
It was a lot bigger than I was expecting, both inside and outside the food co-op as well as the Green Door Market also opening its doors for a few stalls. I might go back another time to see if things change.
It was very crowded, so it obviously quite popular! But the weather was also great the day I went. It was nice to just walk around anyway.

Enjoyable stroll around the stalls on a Sunday afternoon, but the items were either used toys & clothes or expensive furniture & cosmetics. There was a few stalls worth a look would like to see more of these and some more local crafts.

I like popping in here when the weather is nice. But lately I come away empty handed. I tend to find better stuff in charity shops. But if you're not allergic to hipsters it's quite nice on a sunny day to have a mooch around.
The last time I was there though the queues for hot food were too long & I walked away hungry rather than stand & wait in a tight line. I'd like to query the presence of dogs in an eating area. I'm a dog owner & I don't bring him in to places with food. I thought this was the law? I'm also not a fan & dog owners letting them meet other dogs in very crowded places when they may not get on & have a few snaps at each other. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray here people. Just pose with them outside instead.
I like the addition of the Green Door warehouse. There's more space & you can have a proper look at things. I see a reviewer objected to a stall holder not being open to haggling. Surely that's their perogative? It's not compulsory to haggle & I'm not actually a fan of it. I also like that way you can just browse & there's no pressure from the sellers, who are nice & friendly, even in the midst of monsoon type weather!

One thing Dublin is surprisingly weak on is flea and street markets. The Flea Market on the historic Newmarket Square is trying to fill that gap but hasn't quite succeeded..........yet. It is growing and improving all the time and as the number of traders increases so will the market.
As it is, it's a nice place to spend a bit of time particularly on the third Sunday of every month when the theme is Brocante. Close enough to the city centre but sufficiently away from the crazy crowds. You mightn't get that amazing bargain but you will certainly have some fun trying.

The walk to the flea market was nice once you get away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets.the flea market was a bit small, but this could also be because it's not the height of their season. It was a nice little piece to see during our visit. I actually planned our visit so we could go to this on the last Sunday of the month.

I like flea markets in general, cause you get to see and find many interesting things...but compared to some huge flea markets I've been to in Germany, this one just wasn't anything special...I will definitely come back again though

Where and when is the Flea Market in May of 2020? Coming in May and would love to visit any and all flea markets!!

I agree. Check the Facebook page. There are also other markets in Dublin. Sometimes the George's Street, Dublin 2 has an indoor market. The nearly George's St Arcade is also worth a visit. Not a flea market but very similar and a lovely setting. You should also visit the Francis St area, known as antique quarter, which is a bit pretentious but do not be put off. Oxfam shop is especially recommended.

There is quite an assortment. There are a number of stalls with antique china, several stalls towards the back with small furniture items eg chairs, quite a number of stalls with children’s toys, books, trinkets, a few secondhand book stalls, an old prints and maps stall, many stalls that are what I would call ‘garage sale’ collections. Also quite a lot of clothing stalls, a couple of jewellery stalls and some handcrafted stalls for example macrame plant holders or wooden chests. If you have a look through the photos, they will give you a good flavour of what’s there.
