As a surgeon myself, I arranged for a private tour. Well worth it. Beautiful buildings steeped in history. I imagine it was more fascinating to me given my background but I think it is well worth a couple of hours for anyone with a historic or academic bent.

Attended this event in the magnificent auditorium in RCSI hosted by Dr Niamh Shaw. A great evening of anecdotes and interesting insights into the whole process. It was interspersed with footage from the Late, late show of 1991.
A great venue

We were there for a special event, with a very special (formal) ceremony and afterwards a dinner. All just perfect for the event, will be remembered for life!

The Royal College of Surgeons has recently undergone a major refurbishment. If you are in Lincoln’s Inn Fields it is worth dropping in. There is a minimalistic large foyer with a Da Vinci robot on display. Also there is a collection of portraits of past Presidents. Gaze up and see how the core of the building has need removed in modern fashion. Unfortunately most of the site is not accessible to the public without a prior arrangement. However you can have a snack in the rather boring cafe although there are far more atmospheric places in the local area.

Deirdre very kindly organised a tour (best phone ahead too book a time). FRANK, the Head Porter, certainly knows his history of both new and old buildings. To see how medicine has progressed in 200 years is fascinating. The new 10-storey building (four built below street level and six above-a fantastic achievement in itself) is wonderful for students-even simulating operations and talking mechanical patients-yes, very impressive indeed. The tour can take up to two hours. Enjoy and envisage what the next 200 years will bring to medicine! Thank you Frank, for a really enjoyable tour. Well worth coming from Wexford to hear and see!

As a doctor, I loved visiting this college. Amazing design of a classy medical school. Atmosphere of the old school learnings. Walking by the hallways tells you accomplishments of recognized staffs.
It’s almost always open for visitors upon arrangement but easier if done via student or staff of the college.
