About
You truly capture a sense of the hidden Ireland when you accidentally stumble upon The Stag’s Head. This is probably Dublin’s best preserved Victorian pub - and everything here is of authentic Victorian origin. Take time to look around and savour the sumptuously carved Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops. Visiting the Stag’s Head is a wondrous experience wether you call when the premises is cosy, warm and glowing at night time, or in early morning when this is old repository of liquid culture is radiantly illuminated by wafts of sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows. The mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern, being long and punctuated by exquisite partitions that divide into private compartments or stalls.

One of Dublin's best Victorian (or old man) pubs. This is the type of pub that makes Dublin so popular with tourists and locals alike. Great Guinness, great whiskey selection and really good food. The toastie is one of the best and you have to try the Guinness and oysters, the perfect pairing. Having said all that the best asset the Stag's Head have is their staff. They are all genuinely nice people who seem to really enjoy working together and serving their customers. Don't miss the Stag's Head next time you visit the Hibernian Metropolis(Dublin)

We attended a Folklore and Fairies event at the Stag’s Head. They pour a perfect pint of Guinness and magically transported it upstairs for us without spilling a single drop. The staff was friendly and helpful and the ambiance was exactly what we were hoping for. We loved the roundabout hidden feel to the entrance as well which made it feel like we stumbled upon a treasure.

My title is very much an Irish phrase of praise. I am a 'Dub' through and through and am familiar with the Stag's Head and other great Dublin pubs but a recent trip with three friends left us with a smile on our faces and reassurance that the Stag's Head is still that authentic, old-school Dublin pub, drop in if you are in town and want to see why we all love this town and the Stag's Head.
My little story. I asked for a 'rusty nail' which is a shot of Scotch and a shot of Drambuie in a glass with ice. The lounge girl said they had no scotch, I said Irish will do. She came back and said they had no Drambuie. I felt someone was playing a joke or it was being lost in translation so went up to the bar. I was told, they only stock Irish, fair enough, but also that indeed they did not have any Drambuie. No worries, but before I could say another word, Brian the barman said, we'll sort you out and disappeared out the door. Few minutes later my rusty nail arrived with Brians recommendation of a tiny drop of white lemonade (yup, good call!). A bit of banter struck up and we were 20 to 30 mins shootin the breeze with Brian, and as always happens in Dublin we ended up with about a half dozen people we both knew. Great evening and as I say, drop in, you'll have the authentic craic.

They don't cater for vegetarian or vegan people. Which is ridiculous these days.
The cheese and tomato toasties were fried in butter and the menu did not mention that. Chips done in same oil as fish. Brought a tomato sandwich but bread was stale.
One of the other ladies having toastie also could not eat it. Extremly greasy. Those who had fish ,or burgers were happy.
There is also 24 of us with 4 small round tables so some ate on their lap.
The Staff are very good and helpful which is what the 1 star is for otherwise my experience means l will never recommend The Stag Head to anyone

I was enjoying a great night with One of my friends, when all of a sudden the staff refused to serve us anymore alcohol for no apparent reason. Before we were refused we had two drinks each and we went up to the bar for another one. The bar tender agreed to sell us another drink, but then he came back a minute later telling us that he would not serve us anymore. This behavior was unwarranted ans ridiculous as we did nothing wrong. When we asked the bar tender why, he didn’t want to give us an explanation. We left the pub in frustration and we agreed to go to the pub across the road. When we got into the bar we noticed the same bar tender who kicked us out of the other pub speaking to the bar tenders in the new pub, we were very confused as we did nothing wrong but we felt it must have something to do with us. After a minute the bar tenders called us over and demanded we leave the pub straight away. We were subsequently refused service again for no reason and we believe this is a result of discriminatory behavior. This really ruined our night and it left us extremely confused. As two dublin locals we were shocked with the appalling behavior of the staff. We feel like we can’t even enjoy a night out with some friends in our own city.

Unique decor with 19th century stained glass windows. Gastro pub serves traditional Irish food and the real Guinness stout. Seafood chowder was to die for and the Irish ham & Irish cheddar toastie. Total cost plus 1 glass of red wine was €36.

I am a beer connoisseur, and Guinness was my introduction to better beers decades ago so it holds a special place in my heart. We stopped at this beautiful heritage pub for a pint of “the black stuff” during our visit to Dublin. The pub was definitely hopping, and the interior is beautiful. It was a little loud and crowded for my taste, but others would love that, and it certainly evidenced that it is a popular place. However my pint of Guinness was very noticeably sour. It was clear that the tap lines were fouled. I know what a Guinness should taste like, and this was clearly off by more than a little. That was very disappointing and inexplicable for a heritage pub in the very home of Guinness. I expected more.

Great bar. Visited Saturday night and there was live music downstairs, great atmosphere. The barman downstairs Ciaran deserves a medal. Singlehandedly ran the bar which was super busy but you were never waiting long and he was so polite and still service with a smile despite being rushed off his feet. Will definitely visit again.

I tend to take any visiting friends or family to the basement of the Stags Head for the traditional Irish music but I will not cross the threshold of the doors again. I have never come across a more arrogant and ignorant bar man in the 30 years I’ve been drinking around Dublin pubs. Watch out for a Ginger haired barman of about 25 years of age. He’ll make sure to leave a bad taste in your mouth

Visited Dublin and went in for a drink only to be clicked at in the face and prompted by who I presume is the manager. We were spoken to like we were children, and this person did not speak any better to the other staff either. Did not feel welcome but instead made unwelcome and left feeling rushed. If the drinks had not already been poured we would have left immediately. Also observed interactions with other customers who also received rudeness and bad attitude. Will not be coming here again.
