The Irish National War Memorial Park is a large, stunning park that is definitely worth the visit to Inchcore / Kilmainham. The rose gardens are so lovely - the entire park is lovely and so well maintained. It's a massive place and so peaceful. I read that it is one of the top War memorial parks in Europe. Do not hesitate a visit. I felt fortunate to stay in Inchicore for a week, so I enjoyed walking around the park daily with my son and two dogs.

This is a beautiful tribute to those Irishmen that served in the Great War.

I was here in the winter so there were no flowers. However the big trees, grand memorials, rotunda and fountain highlight how beautiful this place could be in the wsrmer months. The walkways are about and easily walkable. The memorial garden is situated along the Liffey River and from the rotunda you get great views.

It took me some weeks to come here because I wasn't sure it was worth it, but it is! Actually, it's very small, but the place is beautiful for how greatly designed it is. You will the at the other side of the Phoenix Park crossing the Liffey River and see lots of birds, swans and even people rowing in their kayaks. Nice place to chill and sit in the gardens area or in the grass near the river.

it is so nice here. Lovely to walk through even on cold winter days. My little dog even has her favorite place to play here. Lot's of families & dog walkers with smiling faces.

I always enjoy viewing the memorial gardens and monuments for cities/countries it is important to me to give and pay my respects for the sacrifice made in war... I was very impressed with the Irish National War Memorial Gardens (Irish: Gairdíní Náisiúnta Cuimhneacháin Cogaidh na hÉireann) in Islandbridge, Dublin... It has been dedicated "to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914–1918" of over 300,000 Irishmen who served in all armies an amazing place to reflect and consider the necessity of defending the liberty of the free but the double edge which comes with this requirement... the worthlessness of war in the first place...

The Memorial Gardens also commemorate all other Irish men and women who at that time served, fought and died in Irish regiments of the Allied armies, the British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, South African and United States armies in support of the Triple Entente's war effort against the Central Powers. Please consider visiting the gardens...

I have visited these gardens many times. As they say "a hidden gem" Best time to visit is of course in the summer when the rose gardens are in full bloom. It's a little hard to find. If your driving coming out from the city on Cunningham Road [R109], turn left onto the R111 over the river Liffey and take the 2nd turn right [opposite Camden House Apartments].
There is a glorious walk from the Gardens along the river Liffey up as far a Chapelizod [ about 2 miles or so]. Directly across from the gardens on the other side of the Liffey are many of Dublin boat club houses. If you're lucky you will get to see all the action of the various rowing clubs, such as Commercial, Dublin University, Neptune and Garda rowing clubs; as the row up and down the Liffey [from eight rowing to single sculls.] You might even take in a Regatta.
Overall a great place to visit, take in the beautiful surroundings, and have a relaxing stroll along the banks of the Liffey. Enjoy.

While we were near the Gaol and the Guinness Factory we walked through this majestic park. Hardly anyone was there and was a scenic war memorial park. Take a few minutes and watch the rowing teams in the lake.

These gardens were designed by Edward Lutyens to commemorate the dead of the Irish Regiments in the Great War 1914-1919. Sadly they went into decline and were virtually abandoned up to the 1980's. Happily with the Peace Process and the realignment of Anlo Irish relations they can now assume their righful place in Irish history. The recent visit by H.M.The Queen has highligted their importance. A delightful place to stroll and enjoy the tranquility amidst the surrounding frenetic traffic. Close to the nearby historic Kilmainham Gaol and King's Hospital Museum of Modern Art. If you are not familiar with the Island Bridge area it would be advisable to get precise instructions on location before you set out to visit.

Up until recently not a lot of Irish people were aware of this place, it is a place to commemorate all the Irish soldiers who have died in many foreign wars over the may centuries when Ireland was part of Britain.
I come here often and always find solace in the contemplative rose gardens and to walk around the nearby park and river, it is one of those in the middle of the city, but you wouldn't think you were type of places.
I say that a lot of Irish didn't know this place was here, basically in 1922 when Ireland separated itself from Britain, the British aspect of Irish history was generally left out of history education for Irish pupils, so all the children's ancestors who fought and died in WW1, the Boer war, the Crimea war, WW2, Colonial wars etc, were generally forgotten, and education was generally aimed at patriots throughout history who brought freedom to the Irish from British rule. Only recently, because of the centenary commemoration of WW1 has this place begun to be on the media spotlights, which to me and many others is a great thing, because now Irish people can learn something more about the history of the British Isles as a whole, which they have always been part of, if only geographically now. And how Irish peoples lives were affected in the same sorrowful ways as every other nation. 40,000 Irishmen died in WW1, countless others injured, and even more bring back the burden of that war home in their memories forever. It is always worth a good point to remember that considering Ireland's population, historically 194 Victoria crosses were awarded to Irish people, and 245 were awarded to English people.
Come here, enjoy the view, and remember the fallen.
