It is quiet during the day now around Smithfield Chimney and Smithfield Market due to the decimation of our tourist industry due to
Covid 19. The Chimney and the Jameson museum are closed due to restrictions. The area was rejuvenated for the 21st century and is a credit to Dublin City Council.
But it is a living area too and a lovely place to live close to the river and city centre.

The chimney is a converted part of the old Jameson distillery (now itself an excellent museum for those with an interest in whiskey!). It consists of a two storied viewing platform which was almost empty when we visited and even on a cloudy day much of the city can be appreciated from its vantage point.
I would suggest that the viewing platforms could be a bit cleaner and would benefit from a couple of benches given the climb to the top! Be warned that the climb consists of a spiralling 250 or so stairs and is not recommended for this who are not in decent physical shape. There is no other elevator access in or out of the building but the views are worth the climb for those who make it!

The Smithfield Chimney is actually the skyview tower (so it is known to everyone). I can confirm the easy entry, really nice staff at the Generator Hotel, where you can quickly get a ticket. The stairs are ok, really. Its a bit more than 100, though you could have a rest, should you need one - it needs a couple of minutes and the view is worth it. This was indeed the best view of the city. The hole experience takes only around 1 hour and is a fine start or end of a visit to Dublin (the window panes on the two observation decks provide information about which area of Dublin you are currently watching). Great picture through the panes.

This is the original chimney from the Jameson distillery now converted into a viewing platform.
Be prepared to walk up, and down, over 250 steps to access the viewing area but it is certainly worth it. The views are amazing. I loved the fact that the name of each location was printed on the windows to avoid any confusion.

Helpful staff at the Generator Hotel (just next to the entrance of the tower) where you buy the tickets.
Great views across the city, well worth the climb up the steps.
It was great to get the perspective from this height and I’m so glad I visited

Very disappointing. Struggled to get there through busy downtown Dublin ... twice. Both times the "lift" was "out". Both times, staff said there was NO indication of when or even IF the "lift" would be repaired. The view may be terrific, but we are not able to climb 250+ stairs to find out.

This is a must do when in Dublin City
We were the only people there and it was fantastic. Be prepared as there’s lots of steps to climb to get to the top but it’s well worth it. The views are stunning and it only cost €5 each.

This is a really great place to visit!! It is quite a lot of steps, going round and round, so take your time as it is easy to get dizzy!! The 360 degree views of Dublin are amazing, really interesting to be able to see all the landmarks and places we had visited from up there! We were lucky as it was a quiet day and we had the whole place to ourselves, so lots of time and space to explore and take photos. It was a windy day, and we could feel the tower wobbling!!! This added to the fun (it didn't feel unsafe at all).

The Generator hostle staff was super friendly in getting us tickets and were really clear about what we were in for on the climb - over 240 steps. My husband and I arent exactly fit and were winded once we got to the top so we spent longer looking at everything to be able to catch our breath. It was really a beautiful view and we were the only ones up there.

The viewing area some 200 ft. above ground, is it an enclosed (glass?) observation deck type, or it's open viewing (no enclosure glass)? The Guinness one seems to be totally glass-enclosed. Is the Smithfield Chimney that bad as some commented? Is the obstruction of view there?
