Free walking tour led by Ciearan Behan

Considering it was early January a group of about 20 on a Friday afternoon seemed surprising. Interesting walk round some of the major sites South of the River Liffey. Informative and entertaining commentary from our excellent guide. He clearly knew his history was a bit of a comedian and played the part of a stereotypical hard drinking Irishman. A really good way to start off a long weekend in the city.

Great tour with Brian!

My friend and I were new to Dublin and thought we would join a walking hour to get an idea of the sights and history. We were so lucky to get Brian on his first day as a tour guide and he was incredible. He shared some great knowledge about the city and it’s history, and made sure we were all having a good time and a bit of a laugh. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone new to the city - great place to explore and meet new people! We made a friend on our tour who we celebrated St Patrick’s Day with. Highly recommend! Great free walking tour with Brian!

We did the free walking tour with Brian. He was fantastic. The tour was about 2hr 20 mins. He told us great stories about Ireland, including personal stories and was hilarious with his wordplay. We had great insight into the history of Ireland. He even gave us recommendations for bars, pubs and things to do around Dublin. Overall, it was fantastic!

All about the tips

This tour could have been great as there is so much history to share about Dublin but our tour guide, John, stopped 3 times just to tell us how important it was to tip him at the end and it’s a ‘win-win’ for everyone. We then stopped so he could sell us the Bar Crawl, then stopped for a drink to conveniently find someone there selling tickets to the bar crawl. The whole thing felt very non-genuine. I think out of 90 mins we had 45 of facts. Really disappointing.

The Free Tour is described as such because there is no maximum or minimum amount any guest is expected to tip; the idea is that every guest should feel comfortable to tip in such a way that reflects their individual budget and what they thought the tour was worth. Any guest who does not wish to tip may decline to do so, and the guides we work with are aware that pressuring guests to tip goes against the Free Tour philosophy. We are truly sorry if your experience did not reflect that. This is not only detrimental to your enjoyment of the tour, but undoes much of the hard work of ourselves and the other guides we work with to promote the concept of a free tour. Thank you once again for reviewing us on TripAdvisor and for joining the tour. Outstanding free walking tour

We did our walking tour with Carl who was incredibly engaging. We learned so much about Ireland's and Dublin's history, language, and Culture in the space of three hours, through storytelling and his clever pneumonics. We're really pleased we got Carl as he is extremely knowledgeable and gave out excellent recommendations and was able to answer many of our questions. Top tier tour guide!

Enjoyable walk!

We had a great time! It was very informative and gave a funny sense of the historical sites of Dublin. The tour guidor, Jason was friendly, approachable. He gave us the motive not only to want to learn more, but also to recommend this tour to our friends.

Great time with Stephen

Always enjoy those based on tips guided tours. Stephen has a deep knowledge of his city and is a lot of fun. Makes you wanna spend more time listening to him with his anecdotes, recommandations and interesting stories. Do not hesitate, you won't regret it.

Perfect start to a Dublin visit

John was a great walking tour guide. He share plenty of inside stories about Dublin as a city, allowed plenty of time for questions and made sure we all had an enjoyable time. Would definitely recommend you do this tour on your first day in the Dublin to get your bearings!

Take the FREE walking tour!

We had the best time on the free walking tour of Dublin with Carl. We took the tour early during our trip and joked the rest of the time as we did activities or visited museums that we already knew a lot of the facts from our short time with Carl. He kept it interesting and engaging and we would have spent the entire day with him if we were allowed! The guides work off tips and we ended up doubling what we initially thought we were going to give. 10/10 recommend!!

We did the free walking tour with Patrick as our guide .
Have done lots of free walking tours before , and this was as good as others .
When we arrived on Saturday , there were about 40 for the English tour, but were split into 2 groups , so 20 was fine.
Patrick was a great guide , very knowledgeable and had a loud voice so could easily be heard.
He told lots of interesting stories and moved the group on at a good pace. Lasted 2hours 20 minutes with a 15 minute break for a drink / coffee in the middle.
Highly recommended!
