Shockingly was charged €31.80 for 4 buns/cake slices & 4 Cokes. There's nothing appropriate or reasonably priced for children, no crisps, small treats etc. Definitely one to avoid if you have children, especially under 12s.

Met one of our daughters, her husband and children at the fabulous playground in the Visitor Centre today and had a walk around, it was very busy today.
It’s is a love place to visit and the museum in the visitors centre is really interesting. There is a lovely cafe there with nice choice of food. Lots of free parking.
Well worth a visit.

Ashtown Visitor Centre and Castle is a fantastic attraction in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. Great parkland area which includes the visitor centre, museum, castle, restaurant, picnic areas, walled garden and huge well equipped children’s playground.
It’s is popular with Dubliners and tourists alike. The indoor dining and access to the castle is not available during current restrictions.

Disgusting unisex toilets !!!
I have been here for coffee on three successive days over the Bank Holiday, each time the experience was ruined by multiple dogs barking at each other.
Perhaps the owners could leave dogs in their cars or control their pets.
Or better still, the operators could prohibit dogs on the premises --- why wait until a child is savaged and then face an insurance claim.
Just saying

So one day into the easing of restrictions we went for a coffee and a cake to the visitors centre which is usually good. Our visit was ruined as our space was persistently invaded by a group of children whose parents didn’t care less where they ran. The staff paid no attention to this at all, and the parents seem to think it’s fine - it isn’t. If this is ok with the franchisee then we’ll take our long and loyal custom elsewhere - a start in the right direction would be a sign instructing lax and careless parents to monitor their children.

In all the years of visiting Dublin and walking in Pheonix park we never knew this centre was here. We took the 99 bus near Houston station which does a circular run up the park to the centre and back. The centre is free and informative. There's a lift to the upper floor and toilets in the cafe next door.

Lovely old castle, excellent visitor centre and cafe. I come here regulary for a wander around the walled garden and a picnic with my girls aged 12 and 15. Today I met a friend with her 2 girls who are the same age and we were all dismayed that the toilets are now unisex. Predictably enough they were in a disgusting state and I saw many women turn away when they saw the unisex sign. I do not feel comfortable allowing my daughters to use unisex bathrooms unaccompanied for saftey reasons.
Poor show. Very disappointed in Phoenix Park visitor centre.

Ashtown castle itself is quite small, and to be honest, there is not too much to see inside. However, I enjoyed a brilliant tour - I learned so much about Irish history, a lot more than in many of Dublin's main attraction.
Should you happen to visit Phoenix Park, make sure to drop by in the visitor center (which has an interesting small exhibition), and do a tour of Ashtown castle. Imho, it was really really worth it.
in case you need to bridge the waiting time for the tour, go to the café, which is excellent. on two different occasions, I had different kind of coffees, and had a sandwich, all excellent. I was told this is a popular meeting point for locals. Or just grab a coffee to go, and visit the beautiful gardens next to the café.

My wife and I decided to go for a walk when I returned from work last Saturday, the 5km restrictions limit our choice of walks these days.
So we decided on the Visitor Centre as we had not visited in a long time.
It’s a lovely place for a walk and you can still get coffee and snacks but it’s takeaway only now. It’s popular with families because of the fabulous playground and lots of free parking.
Our tax €‘s are well spent here by the OPW.

We arrived too late for their scheduled tours, but that didn't stop our tour guide. Geraldine didn't have any active tours at the moment and accommodated our strict schedule while letting others tag along, giving us a quick but very cool and informative tour of the Ashtown Castle, and I'm so glad they had such generosity because this castle was one of the coolest stops in Dublin. Geraldine was not only happy to answer questions, but ecstatic about our visit with many local recommendations.
