This was a fabulous day trip. Take the guided tour for Sure!! It's not. Quick boat ride to Spike Island. Then guided tour of amazing historical place. So much history - great facility. 600ad to 1992. Guide was so knowledgeable. Great for kids too.

Spike island prison is interesting but we had to stay 3 hours there as there was only one boat coming and bringing people out of the island. Food in their coffee shop wasn't good though.

We went over to see the island and wasn't disappointed, we took a picnic with us and the kids splashed in the sea,we had a lovely walk around the prison and took in all of its history.
