1,293 reviews
Beyond Dublin, Ireland offers enchanting castles, ruins, and other notable landmarks, and on this day trip, you’ll see three of the country’s most popular highlights. Don’t worry about arranging trains or navigating the countryside yourself; an air-conditioned coach makes it simple to discover Blarney Castle (and the famous Blarney Stone), Cahir Castle, and the Rock of Cashel in a single day.

The Oval is normally a great bar but their attempt at opening in Covid-19 times with a temporary food offering wasn't a great success on our visit. The airline-style food boxes from the fridge simply don't represent good value and just seemed an amateurish attempt to circumvent the €9 substantial meal rules by a pub with no kitchen. Coupled with cack-handed service which initially saw us denied a second drink " because you've been here as long as we can legally serve you " when we'd only walked in 20 minutes earlier. The bill when it came was totally wrong and about €20 too much.It took an age for it to be sorted. All of this would be forgiveable if the place was rocking but we counted only a dozen people in there. Listen,we know it's a hard time for everyone but €18 for a few crackers,a bit of cheese and salami and some nano-dips is having a laugh and really isn't going to persuade us back again in a hurry.

I was so pleased to support the Oval reopening in the pandemic but what a disappointment....myself and my friend were so looking forward to a relaxing, no hass eve. We ordered the vegan boxes and each of us had 4 natcho chips per 8 dips. What a nightmare! We asked the waitress about it and we were offered some dry ole gluten free crackers from behind the bar. It was so cramped my friend asked of th err was a spare stool and we were told No. Eventually a nervous fella rocked up with a bill with guinness and ale we hadn't ordered with a bill we didn't owe. It was amended but once we paid we later couldn't order a drink with the waitress with short black hair yet the other was going to let us order. I also didn't take too kind to the fella on the door telling me I looked like a doctor. Erm...It's a pandemic...We all wear masks. I will not return anytime soon!! Disappointing!!

There is a wide age range group drinking here but no teenagers as it operates an over 21 policy. This, for us, is a real plus for a city centre bar. There is an old time feel to the place with its many nooks and crannies. You can visit here on your own and read your paper or book. The beer is good and the staff are most pleasant. If there is a downside the toilets are up a number of flights of stairs but then it is an old style Cork bar. That aside it is a favourite and well a visit.

My wife and I stopped into the Oval Bar for an afternoon pint and had a great time. The bartenders were very friendly and eager to interact with us. The prices are reasonable and the selection of libations is substantial. The bar is small but has many comfortable nooks and areas to sit with friends and visit.

I’m from the United States and we came to visit family in Cork for a funeral. We came in for drinks later in the evening. The atmosphere was perfect. I felt like I’d gone back in time to another world - a much simpler and inviting place in time, compared to the craziness of Washington DC!
