I took the free guided tour on Sunday 7th of August, it was way above expectations as our eloquent art historian guide brought the selected exhibits alive for us and gave them meaning, from the collection of Canova casts, to the ‘shawlie’ sculpture by Seamus Murphy and the Jack B Yeats miniature on loan, it was all fascinating.

Upstairs we went to the oldest part of the building where the paintings, the city and the building itself were put beautifully into context by our guide. The one hour tour was both ‘just enough’ and ‘not too much’ information for a very sunny Sunday Cork afternoon.

We have just spent a lovely 2 hours in the Art Gallery. We had a great tour from Matthew he explained the history of the building it’s collections and future developments. It’s a free tour and was an excellent way to spend the time on a rainy Sunday

Nice gallery located next to the Opera House. The admission is free. Great thing to do on a rainy day. The collection was very eclectic from ancient sculptures that were done in plaster to ultra modern. Definitely worth an hour or so if you’re here especially if it’s wet outside.

I visited this cafe the other day with my elderly mother. We arrived 5mins after the breakfast was finished and were told lunch would start in 45minis. We were to get a train but as my mother was very keen to eat there, we decided to kill some time and come back. We settled and a lovely girl took our order. We asked to speak to the manager, as my mum was asking about the possibility of bringing a group of 20 from Dublin to visit the museum and then on for some lunch. While my mother was speaking, the rude manageress told her to 'stop talking'. I was so shocked at seeing this rude lady talk to my mother is such a manner that I insisted on leaving. I would not recommend this establishment, and this lady needs to go back to training!!!

We visited this museum today and enjoyed it but would have been upset if it was not free admission. While the temporary exhibits were well described and as a result interesting, all of the permanent collection rooms were closed. We were done in 45 minutes.

Interesting wide ranging collection .
The Harry Clarke exhibition was fascinating, I would have liked to learned about how the three exhibited panels were made. I’m sure that this kind of work was technically very challenging in 1910/11.

I visited the Crawford with a group of my girl friends on a weekend away in Cork and I must say what a gorgeous experience the 5 of us had! The museum is an old Georgian/Victorian era gem. A jewel in the city centre. Firstly we went to look at the Ground floor exhibition (Meat and Potatoes ?) while in here we were greeted by a lovely young lad called John. He was so warm and helpful and knew a lot about the background of the paintings and the context of the exhibition. I visit a lot of exhibitions and the workers are usually either not around or don’t know anything about the art but this young lad knew what he was talking about !! I absolutely adored the Yeats and seeing the painted biscuits. The staff upstairs were nice too. Loved the Harry Clarke room, what an asset to the city. The Crawford has a great bookshop on top of a fantastic gallery !

An eclectic mix of paintings and sculptures, some excellent, others with less obvious appeal. Housed in a lovely old building in the City Centre, it's well worth passing an hour here. There is also an excellent cafe, set up for outdoor eating during the pandemic

Really enjoyable visit make all the better by the great team working there. Everyone we interacted with contributed to making it a great visit. The Sunday Art workshop team were so accommodating and encouraging of my small child's 'creations', even when he wanted to do his own thing. The host of the guided tour had so much passion and knowledge to share that my 10 year loved the tour and the staff in the book shop were welcoming and helpful. Really great venue with great people

The Crawford Art Gallery is a must see Cultural Institution when visiting Cork City. It has an excellent collection of work both historic and contemporary and admission is free. Accessible to all, easy to navigate, great facilities, caters for large and small groups and has an excellent learn and explore programme. There’s a very nice restaurant and shop on the ground floor and the staff are very friendly. Best of all it’s nestled in the heart of the cultural quarter of Cork City. A must see…….
