The Daniel O'Connell statue towers over central Ennis, a fitting figure to commemorate, the Catholic emancipator or "liberator" who ran for parliament in this constituency. He was the first Catholic to sit in Westminster for a couple of generations and was central to the repeal of the penal laws that discriminated so severely against Catholics throughout the 17th century.
He stands high on a column and is well worth a stop.

This monument in Ennis is a landmark, the symbol of the Kerry man Daniel O'Connell who started new measures for tenants against the British landlords through the Parliament in Westminster. This was the legal star to further improvements to the Irish people.

It is a tall landmark in the corner of an intersection in the lovely town center. Shops, banks, delicious restaurants and lively pubs are around the area. Very lively part of town. Tourist information is posted near by. During the day, from the steps of the monument you have a lovely view of the busy O'Connell street were you will find something to shop, eat or just watch. Fun place. Locals are very friendly.

Good location, can be seen better from other end of the street for a photo. Can sit on it and watch the world go by. Lots of characters there for a friendly chat. Its the heart of the town. Lots of history to it

This monument was erected 1867 and is of Daniel O'Connell. His hand is raised facing up O'Connell Street. It is surrounded by steps and the statue itself stands on a drum decorated with a scroll of shamrocks. Set on the site of former courthouse, demolished in the year 1852. I have read a lot about it as i enjoy history.

Don't go to Ennis to see this monument. Go to this monument to learn a little history and see Ennis. The Tower is surrounded by stores and shops with some of the nicest merchants we found. One actually stepped out of her shop to go into another to ask about a third place for us the find what we were looking to buy! What a community!

The monument as it is known is in the centre of Ennis town where the three roads- abbey Parnell and O'Connell streets meet. There are always people sitting on the steps at its base as it is a central meeting point. Daniel is an historic figure in Irish historical politics and made his stand on home rule from his Clare seat. The monument is on the site of the original courthouse again steeped in the political history of Ireland.

Amazingly this monument can make it feel overcast on the sunniest of Irish days. Grey and imposing, a good landmark. But don't stay too long or you will be wondering why you don't feel so good anymore.
