Made a short visit to the abbey with my tour group. It's a lovely spot; peaceful and picturesque. Interesting enough to look around even without a guide.

This was our second visit to Corcomroe Abbey. Our first was in August 2005, when to our immense disappointment, we found it covered in scaffolding and without access to the interior. Fortunately restoration work is now complete (April 2008), and we were able to see the fine carvings of flowers (poppies, lily-of-the-valleys and lotus), human heads and foliage. Also noteworthy is the tomb of King Conor O'Brien and the superb ribbed vault. I was quite surprised to see that part of the Abbey now has a new roof, however, to my inexperienced eye, it seems to have been extremely well-crafted and is sensitive to the age of the building.
Corcomroe - also known as "Saint Mary of the Fertile Rock" - is set in a beautiful, green valley, just inland from Bellharbour. A very peaceful spot, it is well worth visiting and again, is one of those places that with luck, you'll be able to experience and enjoy all to yourself.

Such a beautiful and peaceful feel in and around this old Abbey. In fact it touched me so much that I asked my girlfriend to Marry me ( she said yes by the way :-) My grandmother came from Co. Clare, so it already had a special place for me.....

This was a Cistercian abbey built in 1194. You go through a couple stone pilings and can walk around the remains of crosses, arches, graves and abbey walls. The adjoining pasture is a great photo-opp for cow pictures. They all start mooing when you drive up. Very enjoyable hour or so.

The ruins of this abbey is astounding. My only regret is that I didn't spend a lot of time there. I could have spent the entire day, walking around and reading the headstones. It is absolutely amazing in every sense of the word. Plus, the sight is huge. It's an amazing feeling just to stand there and look around you. Amazing.

This is a beautifull ruined abbey nestled into The Burren. The backdrop only adds to this place, we spent a great deal of time here just walking around and admiring the beauty. This is truly a hidden gem, we had the whole place to ourselves. The drive is easy, parking is on site, and you can see the tour buses whizzing by in the distance as scores of people miss the chance to really enjoy the part of Ireland that we keep coming back for.
Do yourself a favor and stop here, it is well worth it.

I have visited many of the still functioning abbeys. Corcomroe Abbey, although in ruins , has retained that sense of separation from the world practiced by monks worldwide. The silence that surrounded the place as well as the silence within reminded me of the inner silence that is sought by those who enter Monasteries and Abbeys everywhere. I was fortunate to be there at a time when there was no one else around so the solitude and silence was profound. I found myself imagining myself as a monk in the 12th and 13th Centuries .. I was there on October 22, 2018 just a few days before the days of Halloween and All Saints... Could feel the Spirits of those so long departed.

In Ireland for vacation and out driving countryside. I found the abbey online and knew we had to visit. It was eerily quiet but beautiful. We loved walking the grounds and reading the history oud the place. It really was one of the most extraordinary places i have seen. I highly recommend....AND there is a local chocolate maker close by to visit as well.

The 12th century abbey isn't overly commercialised and a must see if you want to walk around the ruins in peace and quiet. There wasn't another person when we were there and it is free. So, we were able to explore and take photos of the site and take it in. It was built in a remote area, and it is still that. Worth the drive while you are visiting the area.

One of my favorite things about the old Abbeys and monasteries we visited in Ireland was that most of them were off the beaten path with very little tourists. This was one of our favorites and was well worth a stop on the day we drove through the Burren. Thanks to the recommendation of someone here on TA we knew to look for it. My husband and I spent quite a bit of time here and only saw two other people there at the same time. It was very interesting to walk the grounds, and we liked that we could walk inside of the walls. Fascinating place and definitely worth a stop!
