Good beach to enjoy with family and kids.
This is a good place for everyone to visit, not that much crowded as other touristy places. Good parking area and a swim area. I wish I discovered this much earlier in my trip, I would have avoided the other crowded beaches, where parking was a problem.

    Just Beautiful
Lydgate is a beautiful park. Area for soccer, fields for other activities, a walking/running trail, kids play area, Frisbee golf, and lots or area for camping and family gatherings. I loved reading the historical markers and signs to learn about the area. Beautiful water and some safe swim areas. Stunning pictures can be taken here.

    Amazing snorkeling and family beach
Lydgate State Park has amazingly clear water with an area within a rock reef that makes it perfect for families and snorkeling. I am a beginner snorkeler and it was perfect for me. I felt like I was swimming in a tropical fish tank there were so many colorful fish sharing the water with me. Lydgate Beach was my favorite snorkeling spot on the island. There are washroom facilities, rinsing shower stations, huge childrens' playground, picnic tables and shaded areas as well as the soft sand beach.

    Great snorkeling!
Lydgate Beach was my favorite of the beaches we visited in Kauai. Go to the far end where the lifeguard station, bathrooms, and washing stations are. In this area are two large tide pools created by lava rocks. We swam in the one on the right and it was protected from the ocean waves so relatively calm. It is shallow on the edges but about 5 feet deep in the middle, and the amount of fish in here was incredible. I swam through at least two entire schools of fish. They are so close to you. Highly recommended especially for kids. The beach itself is an interesting walk as there is a lot of driftwood throughout. It was somewhat windy though.

    Relaxing Beach and Snorkeling
Perfect spot to practice snorkeling! The swimming area is protected by lava rocks, and there is a shallow area for little ones. There’s not a big variety of sea life, but there were plenty blue and iridescent schools of fish to keep you excited.

A large park with lots to do and easy beach access conveniently located across from the Hilton Garden Inn
What a cool park! Wow, so much to say! We were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn directly across the street from the park and beach. We were staying in one of their cottages so the 2 parks were right below us, literally right out our back slider! One is very new looking, with astoturf, lots of fun things for the kids including a tea cups type ride, wow! And there is also a wooden park right next door that looks pretty old and beat up, but don’t let that fool you! It’s well maintained, the wood has been treated so you won’t get tons of splinters and it’s actually a super fun maze of things to do! It’s definitely geared toward older kids whereas the newer park is more for younger kids. My 10 year old enjoyed them both! And the beach was just across the street from there! The park is huge! There are multiple parking areas (for free), multiple parks, areas with sheltered picnic tables, bathrooms, and of course, the beach! A wonderful protected area to swim or let the kids out too! The entire area is well maintained and exceptionally clean!! We even saw them cleaning both parks in the morning before we went down to play! Yes the beach has been a bit beat up from the storms so there are some portions of the beach that are less swimmable. But it’s super spread out and I loved the gorgeous sunsets!

Our last stop on a van tour we did, this looks like the place to be. Very nice beach, and the two little "ponds" look perfect for ocean swimming. Some of the most picturesque photos we took during the tour. There are some great trees right by the water, that frame some beautiful pictures of the ocean and the waves.

I wish I had my grandchildren with me! The Kamalani playground is huge and mostly shady (although the large area for kids with mobility issues is sun-baked). The beach is fun with driftwood and rocks to explore and a protected childrenʻs swimming lagoon. There are shady picnic tables and bathrooms. Quite a few interpretive signs, an ancient Hawaiian sacred Heiau and hidden petroglyphs add something to think about.

While the waves here were big there is an area of beach that is protected by rocks and was calm enough for you 4 year old to swim in and my 10 month old to sit in the surf. There is also a fantastic and very large play structure. This is a great place to spend hours with the family.

We stopped here on our drive up the coast. There is a lagoon that would be perfect for little kids if the conditions were right. As the area recently experienced large storms, the park staff were still cleaning out debris. That being said, we still enjoyed our time at the beach and can see how this is a fabulous spot once the debris is collected.

The whole time that my wife and I were staying on Kauai for our 22nd Anniversary, the surf was really high in the south shores of Kauai and Lydgate was the ONLY beach we could actually swim in (watch the Hawaii Parks/Rec beach warnings before you go to a beach). It sits mostly behind a large hotel in the area but it is accessible to the public as well. The entire beach is surrounded by a lava rock wall that blocks most of the water surges and makes it ideal to swim in if you are not confident swimming in the ocean.

We found ample seating both along the beach itself and at the picnic tables offered on the beach including many shaded spots. The beach has bathrooms and push button showers to wash off any sand. The park was not dirty or covered in graffiti like some of the beaches we saw. There are some food places near the beach but for the best time, bring a snack or picnic supplies.

Now for the swimming - it was fantastic! Not only was the swimming area not much deeper than 7-8 feet on the beach side of the protected wall, but also there were fish everywhere if you are willing to snorkel to see them. When I went there, there was some pretty heavy waves crashing on the walls, but thanks to the wall protection, it felt like swimming in a man-made wave pool where the water would occasionally surge up and then go back down. I saw a school of blue tang fish (think Dory from Finding Nemo) that swam all over the cove we were in and when I got closer to the rock wall, I saw some stripped fish (zebra tang maybe) swimming around and even some little black crabs crawling in and out of the rocks.

Be careful as you get closer to the rock wall as the pool gets much more shallow right around the wall and you can easily bump your foot or leg on a random piece of lava rock and it doesn't feel nice. However, you can absolutely enjoy this place with your family or by yourself (though you will likely be swimming with people of all ages from kids to seniors).

This is a lovely park with a protected area for swimming. There were many picnic tables and sheltered spots for gatherings. It also had plenty of washrooms and change areas. We especially liked the Hauola City of Refuge site at the very eastern most point of the park. It's a quick walk with signs to explain what it is you're looking at and a bit of a history lesson.

We really enjoyed that this beach had swimming areas blocked off so little ones could splash around without huge waves pummeling them. There are also bathrooms which are very convenient. There was a huge play area across the street but we didn't make it there because our little one hit his nap time wall after the beach. There wasn't a ton of shade, and it got fairly crowded mid-day so you may want to head there early.

We enjoyed the sunrise. Staying in Koloa we decided to start our day early at Lydgate. Made it for the sunrise and it was beautiful!! The view from this point of the island for sunrise is a little different from Poipu/Koloa area. Wonderful beach to start the day with the Hawaiian sunrise.

Whatever weather related reason for dumping huge logs/driftwood in protected swim area we obviously weren’t prepared for it. Nonswimmable. Couldn’t Even walk on beach. Huge construction vehicles needed to remove debris.

We went here three times over the course of three weeks, and it was always rough seas. The park itself is very nice with a rocky lagoon for calmer waters. Snorkeling - no, boogie boarding - no. Even the surfers were not going in the waters.
