Dave took us to the places we wanted to see ( including Callanais and the place where the Lewis chessmen were found). He was full of information and lively stories about them. He also recommended other visits for which we did not have time that day. Wholeheartedly recommended.

4 of us did a full day tour of Lewis with Dave. Dave picked us up from our B&B just out of Stornoway about 9am and took us up to the top of the island and then we worked our way down to Uig over the course of the day. Dave, despite being an incomer, in very knowledgeable about this island, it's geography, culture and history. His knowledge of the Callanish Standing Stones and other historic monuments on the island is particularly deep and we feel that we got a real insight into these archaeological features of Lewis. Dave knew all the places to go and seemed to be able to take us to many places that might not normally be on the tourist trail.

We had a great adventure with Dave. We booked him for a day on Lewis. He was so knowledgeable it was a pure joy. We learned so much it was mind boggling. In fact we were so impressed we turned around and booked him for another day on Uist. If you want to really learn go with Dave. He took care never to leave any of us (infirmed) behind when we were walking. Which was a great relief after a few other guides who were always in a hurry. He is truly one of the best you can hire.

My wife and I had scheduled a half-day with Dave, but then extended it to a full 8+ hours. If archeology, history, and culture are your interests, this tour (which he can tailor more specifically for you) is outstanding. He speaks with authority because is is one. And he not only makes it interesting he makes the extensive information FUN. We thank Dave for one of the best days we had on our six weeks trip to Scotland and Ireland.

Dave taught us so much about stone circles on Lewis & Harris, and in general. The whole day was filled with interesting conversation and lessons about neolithic sites, the local culture, and the history of Lewis. I learned so much. Dave is also very charming and quite funny, in addition to being very knowledgeable. This was perfect for the trip I took with my dad who is retired but still very much a scholar (also a total Stonehenge fanboy). I'm so glad I stumbled on his website and that he had an opening for our tour dates. This was probably the best tour my dad and I have been on - I'm usually keen to do my own thing and study up to create my own tours. There's no way I would have been able to learn this all on my own.
