Matale District is a beautiful place with its natural beauty, equipped with waterfalls and beautiful places.
Last December we visited Sera Falls, a beautiful waterfall located in the Knuckles Reserve in the Matale District.
Generally, the water of this waterfall is abundant between November and March.
Traveling a little farther and tighter, but when the waterfall comes to a close, you will no doubt feel the freshness of your exhaustion.
It measures 10 meters in height, which means about 33 feet in height and measures approximately 15 to 20 meters in width. You will realize that this is a waterfall that is wider than the height. Another highlight of this waterfall is its natural cave in the rock, located behind the falls, and you have the opportunity to walk into that cave.
Walking into the cave, you are standing behind the crumbling water as shown in the video and it's a rare sight you should see at least once in your life.

This was the first time when we went behind a waterfall. A small cave like passage takes you behind the sheet of falling water. It is a unique experience.

Since this fall has a remote location, there aren't many tourists you'll find here. It is tranquil and one of the most beautiful falls that I've ever seen, surrounded by pristine forests.

There are camping options available right there at the falls and locals can help you camp.

I have been to many waterfalls in Sri Lanka but this is a very unique one. You can go into the water falls (Actually to the underneath of the water fall) and touch the water safely because there is a cave under the water fall where you can reach to the fall very safely. There is an observation platform where you can observe the fall from the front. This is one of the most beautiful places to be visited. Don’t miss this place if you are in Matale or near Knuckles Mountain range. The road is very rural but worth taking the challenge.

What a place to be there for cooling our mind!

Sera ella is beautiful Indeed. But Its very dangerous/deadly. Rocks are slippery and one should not step in to the water how bad the temptation is. There are rocks in front of the waterfall which are very slippery. Depth of water in the base of the fall is more than 15 meters and if u fall in to the water no one ever will be able to save your life. You will get drowned in no time. There has been many deaths that no one talks or warn you. It is mysterious and I will never recommend anyone to visit this place because this beauty hides lot of secrets and is very dangerous.

We went expecting a thrilling experience but due to lack of water could not enjoy it. The locals said the best time to visit is Jan / Dec rainy season.

We went from Riverstone side and the road was sign posted at 9.5km point. That is where the directions ended! Thereafter all you will see is high voltage fences and forest !!!

The road was narrow and we basically followed the crowd. We passed two 'Y' junctions and there were no signs, we simply followed the high voltage fence and road markings.

Once we reached the fall, the parking was a bit difficult for large buses. Therefore go early if you are traveling in a big bus.

We went down steps to reach the fall. It was not hard, but could be slippery when wet. Half way through we turned left and followef the steps to reach the viewing area.

The elderly couple selling juices and snacks told us how people did not behave there. When we were there the man brought 3 empty liquor bottles from the viewing area. Apparently he cleans the area as the authorities don't do anything. Therefore please be kind enough to support their little business...

after few min drive via the rural village we found this place, you have to descend around 300 m from a very basic staircase with the aid of trees and the effort is worthy. there are several places to bath but be careful if you bath just below the waterfall, it is bit deep and rocky .
