Nice large park with a few good walks but the visitor centre is a bit small and expensive, some walks have been cut off in need of repair for years and the historic Scotland castle is a ruin covered in scaffolding and cut off by fencing. The adventure playground is great however and on dry days there are some big... More

The Duke of Hamilton was the Guardian of Mary Queen Of Scots and as a result tried his arm at laying his hands on the Chaterherault estate in France. He failed. This (which he called the Dog-House) is a replica of the palace in France which he had built... More

We visited for a dog walk around the country park which was lovely and afterwards we felt peckish so stopped at the oaks restaurant for some food. The coffee tastes cheap, and tea was weak, we had to go back and ask for 2 teabags even though we had payed for a pot of tea for 2 people. The sandwiches... More

Just last week I visited the hunting lodge with an adult learning group I'm in. We went on a guided tour which was £3.50 a head and our helpful guide was called Tom. It is set in a lovely location with a view of the Hamilton Mausoleum, as there is a connection between the two. The staff were very friendly,... More

We visited Chatelherault as part of an organised outing, meeting Tom, the tour guide, in the reception area for him to start the tour. The tour began with Tom showing us a quick 10 minute DVD of Chatelherault before the renovation project started in the late 1970’s. The building had been ready for demolition but thankfully the council of the... More

If you are interested in local history or enjoy researching Hamilton Palace and the Dukes of Hamilton, this place is definitely worth a visit. The rooms are full of great information, lovely gardens, there are fantastic walks and a good play area for children. There is also a café on site - nice looking produce but unfortunately last time I... More
