If you are looking for the true home of golf and where the Open began, this is ground zero. If you are travelling the world to play golf, I would expect that you understand the golf you are about to play and it is still played like it was over 100 years ago. Go early or stay late and check out all of the Open history upstairs. If you enjoy Tom Morris history, this is the place to be. I'll refrain from posting course pics as those seem to be plenty here but I'll show some other neat ones.

This is where the "Open" started and still an interesting and playable golf course. Traditional links that you have to hit fairly straight shots on, is a bit quirky with loads of fun. Take at least a stroke saver with your first game, the caddies are worth a few shots. Fantastic clubhouse experience with good food and a lovely bar room overlooking the 18th green.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your round at Prestwick. Your advice about taking a caddie is quite correct - they will make you enjoy your round so much more and try to keep you on the straight and narrow!

Day 26 of golfing endurance test of Ireland and Scotland and we had our first day off.
So what to do on a fine day (one of very few in a month)?
Let’s drive across Scotland from StAndrews fo a game at historic Prestwick. Wow, what a brilliant decision. Impossible to describe all the quirky bits of this course but it is a timeless museum like North Berwick. Please leave courses like these alone and remain as museums of days gone by.
Lovely reception at Course and a leisurely game in lovely sunshine and able to enjoy a great course whilst admiring such history. Lots of photos and despite it being a long day driving and golfing, I am so glad to say I have played such an historical course.
Fully worth the effort.

My goodness, 26 days of consecutive golf - as you say quite an endurance test! Delighted you managed to play at Prestwick Golf Club - birthplace of the Open Championship - and you had an enjoyable day at our historic club. We look forward to welcoming you on your next visit to Scotland.

This very old golf course is certainly challenging with its deep bunkers, shared fairways, and two blind drives over hills at par3s. It was fun to play and the caddies were pretty good. We did the Prestwick Experience after golf. The clubhouse is small and cramped making the changing area a mess. We had to wait for room at the dining table. We finally got in to set at the end of the table while another loud group occupied the rest of the table. The food and service was mediocre at best. If invited to do this experience you should consider passing on it. It certainly is nothing special.

Thanks you for your review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit to Prestwick Golf Club as much as we would have hoped. One of the features of the Prestwick Experience is having lunch at the long table and mixing with other gollfers. As we had no complaints about the standard of the food in the Dining Room from other golfers I can only assume you were expecting or looking for something different to that which was on offer, in which case I am sorry you were disappointed. If you get the opportunity to visit again I hope that you have a more enjoyable experience.

Unfriendly and unwelcoming restaurant staff.

No driving range.

Very old style golf course with 3 blind holes and little room between fairways, greens and tees.

There are so many beautiful, scenic, friendly, nostalgic and challenging courses in Scotland. Prestwick has none of those qualities. The course is very poorly maintained. No driving range. The staff was stuffy and snooty. It seemed like the caddies were convicts out on work release program. Second rate at best. If your looking for nostalgia go and look around. The course isn't worth wasting your time or money. Aside from that the club pro was nice and competent.

Prestwick gets a rap of being short and "quirky" but its anything but, especially when the wind blows. The history of the place is overwhelming. Just a fantastic golf experience. Nice bar and restaurant on the 2nd floor of the clubhouse. The "drying room" was a big hit after a wet and windy morning round.

Thank you Duncan G for your review - agree entirely with your sentiments. Some very tricky holes and club selection can vary greatly from one day to the next depending on the weather....................one of the many reasons to love our historic links at Prestwick Golf Club.

A ver historic place to play. Designed by Old Tom Morris who was also the pro here for over a decade. The first 11 Open Championships were held here. Absolutely enjoyable staff and a very fun course to play. Certainly should be on your list.

Visited her with 11 others on Friday 12th September for a golf stag day. Can honestly say that not one hole disappointed. From the first hole which is exceptionally narrow to the third which has the most ridiculously sized bunker in driving distance to seventeen where you need to hit your approach over a couple of humps, (has a slight resemblance to the upper chest of a female) the whole course was outstanding, challenging and very demanding. My four ball had the pleasure of the company of caddy Chris and his information with invaluable. Without a caddy you would have no idea where to try hit it at times and even balls that go off line he instantly knew what blade of glass your ball would be on in the rough.

After the golf we had dinner in the clubhouse and the service and food was exceptional. All staff you came across from the starter to the barmaid were a credit to Prestwick Golf Club.

A must experience for the golf enthusiast.

Prestwick was great fun. Honestly, it would be frustrating to play one time without a caddy in your group to guide you. Much history here. Several unique holes with danger combinations you would never expect. If you go in the clubhouse afterwards for a beer, beware of Brunhilda, the barkeep. Not in keeping with the normally affable Scottish people we have met everywhere else.
