Lovely, tasty lunch.

I had lunch in Tam O' Shanters with some friends. The place was busy as it is very popular. However, despite the fact that the place was so busy, the service was excellent and the food was delicious.
We did not have to wait long for our meal and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I can definitely recommend the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.

great location

quaint little pub, called in for a drink after a hot afternoon wandering the town. sat out in the beer garden, served by the little out door bar, pleasant young man served us, all in all a very nice hour or so.

Nice place. Unwelcoming barmaid

The bar maid was the most unwelcoming person I have ever met in my life. Otherwise the customers were very welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed

Inn on the act!
May 2021
Yesterday along with friends we popped in to the beer garden for a few refreshments. Nicely situated and very popular local. Good service, however limited range of beverages outdoors.

Horrible experience
May 2021 • Friends
Went in sat down with a mate on a golfing trip. Soon as they heard we were English the barmaid (who's body odour was terrible) came over and asked us to leave because we'd had enough to drink. We'd had one pint in another pub opposite. When she realised I hadn't had enough she said my mate had. We left...... So never got the chance to have a beer.

Disappointed
Dec 2020 • Couples
I understand its a global pandemic, that its a worrying time. However I have to say having visited for Christmas lunch today it was absolutely awful. Staff were rude, looked miserable. Portions were tiny and the roast potatoes were Aunt Bessie's. I'm far from a food snob and the prices are fab. However this place is stepped in history in a town that's on it knees. You could be a draw for the masses when things return to normal. Also the tea I had was the smallest cup I've ever seen and no tea pot. I really wanted to enjoy this experience but felt let down and hungry when I left. I don't want you to fail but rather take the criticism and think over how you could improve. You have a historical property on your hands that lacks atmosphere and friendly warm welcome.

Ayr’s oldest inn
Feb 2020
You’d struggle to get anymore Scottish than this pub! Saltires hang from the beams, the words of Rabbie Burns are inscribed on the walls and Tennent’s is on tap. It was a cosy pub especially with the fire burning in the hearth. A couple of local brews wouldn’t go amiss.

Great value lunch
Feb 2020 • Family
Dropped into the restaurant half of the pub for a spot of lunch, great value home cooking served by friendly and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend the haggis neeps and tatties!! Not many places you can feed a family of four plus drinks for less than £30.

We're not in Ayr that often but know where we'll be going for lunch next time!!

Lunch
Dec 2019
We looked for a different place for lunch and after several years decided to try the Tam O’Shanter Inn on the High Street in Ayr. It was excellent with good service and reasonable priced meals. We will definitely be back
