Love this great old movie theater!!
Nov 2021
I love the playhouse and have been going there since I was a wee laddie back in the 70's (I still remember queueing with my parents to see star wars in 1977 and superman in 1978).

I have seen many changes since those days, the best change for me is the IMAX screen, I try to avoid going to see a movie now unless its in IMAX!! The experience is exhilarating. I do however have a few gripes with the cinema that should be mentioned. The seats and furnishings in the imax screen are now 7 years old and in some areas that shows. In the back row there is a seat with no back foam, at the right of the stairwell seats, the front fabrics are torn off and there are quite a few cup-holders missing. Sticky floors however remain an issue in almost all cinemas - thats what happens when you have people eating and spilling all the time!

I have yet to experience the re-furbished screen 3 and 4, I am going to see Rocky IV directors cut on the 24th Nov - was praying for it to be in 3, 4 or even IMAX (lol) but I still cant wait! I saw the original cut at the playhouse many times back in 1985!

Also, I'm hoping my kids enjoy their sunday trip to see ghostbusters afterlife with me on sunday, their first visit to the playhouse and their first movie experience in IMAX

To end: I will always love going to the playhouse cinema, the staff are friendly and helpful (most of the time anyway :p ) and thier prices, especially for imax are extremely reasonable, however I was dissapointed that there was no family ticket for the imax screen like there is for the other screens!

Hi Steve, thank you for your review. The cinema is still undergoing it's pre Covid upgrade and more screens will be upgraded very soon. The IMAX does have a family ticket option so I'm surprised that it wasn't available. Can you let me know is this an online issue or were you in the Cinema when you tried to book this? Thanks Playhouse Team.

Comfy Seats
Oct 2021
We'd travelled some distance so we could see the new 'Dune' film in IMAX and the experience was a positive one.

Collecting our (pre-paid) tickets was straightforward and we didn't have to wait when it came to buying drinks/snacks, although worth noting we were at an afternoon screening on a weekday. The prices for everything were fairly resonable and average for most cinemas.

We were in Screen 4 and have to highlight the seats as being the most comfortable we've ever had in a cinema. The sound was also very immersive but, although the digital image was certainly clear and crisp, the screen felt a little small for IMAX.

There are COVID measures in place including check-in and sanitiser points. I'm not sure if they are doing any sort of social distancing as there were only 4 other people at our screening so we were spaced out anyway. We couldn't see any signs directing us to keep masks on once sat down but, having said that, there was a lady coughing continuously so we ended up putting ours back on for the duration, through choice.

We'd definitely consider visiting again, if we wanted to see something in IMAX specifically.

Thank you for your great review. Our IMAX screen is in Screen 1 which is enormous. However screen 4 is a brand new screen, brand new seats and brand new 7.1 surround sound system which is 2nd only to our IMAX screen. We have social distancing of 1 seat empty either side of every booking, at this time. We only require people to wear masks until they are seated. Please come again and ask for IMAX in screen 1, you will not be disappointed. Thank you again for taking the time to give us a review it is very much appreciated.

Very dirty place, wont be back.
Oct 2021
We went to see the James Bond film here, it was our first time going since lockdown. We were very anxious about how clean the place would be. When we got there it was not very busy, we went into screen 5 and the floor was very sticky. We got to our seats were we were met with very tatty worn out seats with food still attached to the arm rests. There were empty wine and beer bottles as well as glasses in the aisles from the previous screening.

The place filled up very quickly and there was not much way of social distancing. I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the whole experience. Will not be back until this gets addressed.

We are very upset that your experience was not to the standards that we ourselves set. COVID stopped us from completing our renovations of all screens. This is something we are always continuing to do. Screens 3 & 4 have been completed and we would love you to come back and try them out. We let you down on your last visit and we are very sorry. Thanks for taking the time to review us.

A bit faded with variable screens. Good coffee but don’t bother if you want film tickets and wait behind a gorilla ordering 35 burgers, 92 nachos and a tanker of Coca Cola. Go to Dundee or Aberfeldy instead

Hi Viewlander, Thank you for your annual review. Due to covid restriction we are operating with limited tills to keep a two meter distance for our staff and customer safety. We have had our concession desk updated in the last couple of years plus two of our screen have new luxury seating. We are currently waiting on upgrades to the rest. If you wish to discuss your review please contact me at info@perthplayhouse.co.uk - Cathy

Poor communication
Feb 2020
Went to view the new Sonic movie with my 8 year old on Saturday. We arrived 20minutes before film was due to start to our surprise there was a large queue, never the less we joined and watched the clock tick down 5min / 2min before the screening was due then 5min after the start time the queue slowly getting nearer and nearer to the front . We finely got to the front 10min past start time only for the gentlemen to say it's sold out. I then told him that there should be members of staff informing people of this issue or at least something on the TVs or notice board he wasn't interested, so I decided to notify other members of the queue and low and behold about 10 other people left disappointed.

Hi Stephen, We apologise for the experience you had with us. We were extremely busy that day. We always let the queue know if a film has sold out. We will be looking into why this wasn't relayed on the day and look to make sure that this information is given at the earliest possible point. Please don't let this visit put you off coming to see a film with us again. We have recently invested in 2 brand new screens and are moving on to do another and would love you tome and experience this. Kind Regards. Paul

Movie Time...
Feb 2020 • Friends
Always enjoy going to Perth Playhouse to watch the latest movies. A lovely art deco inspired cinema complex which we have been frequenting for years. The decor is modern and inviting, the foyer area is open plan and easy to access for those with disabilities too. Perth playhouse offers screenings for those with Autism, dementia, young children etc which is good for people to be able to access that need this. Toilets are easy to access and more importantly very clean. Lovely cafe just off the main foyer for a drink or snack before, during or after the movie. Staff are always so helpful and friendly! Myself and my friend, had another lovely movie night at Perth Playhouse to watch "Emma", in the comfort of cinema 3, which was a huge bonus to be sat in comfortable sofa seats. The film was a good choice and we enjoyed watching it. Planning our next visit with our kids next time!

Imax = large screen experience for movies
Dec 2019
Decent experience watching latest Star Wars movie on the Imax screen - leg room a bit limited (as with most cinemas) but otherwise comfortable

Thank you for your review we are glad you had a good experience. We do have seating with more leg room in the IMAX if required. The next time you come ask a member of staff and they will show you where those seats are. Thanks.

Great seats and small is beautiful.
Jan 2020
First time we visited and we saw Little Women.
Had Hot Dogs for dinner with an ice cream and a cup tea/coffee. Plus a glass of wine.
Picture house was small, comfortable and great seats. Sound was good and audible. Concession price for over 60’s, £6.00 each.
We will return here for future films of our choice.
Car parking was Council run. Free after 6.00pm. 10 mins walk away.

Love the new seats!
Oct 2019
Went to see Joker in the screen 3 room. We didn’t realise there was new seating there. Wow!! So comfy and luxurious. Loads of leg room. We raised the arm of the seat out the way making the space feel like a two seater sofa. I usually have to sit with my coat and bag on my lap...well there is more than enough room to have it on my seat beside me. What a difference. A great comfortable experience to enjoy the film. Brilliant!

Visit on the 24/09/2019
Sep 2019
Visited to view "Downton Abbey" as part of "compare the market" promotion - good value at £6 for 2 concessions - confused with initial pricing structure as same film on 1 screen was £6 another screen was £7 - extra pound for a new screen and "luxury" seats - stick with cheaper option as screen 6 was perfect! - overall good experience!!

Hi JS L , thank you for the review! Great to hear of you taking advantage of the meerkat deal. Thanks for thinking that screen 6 was perfect but we would recommend you try the new screen 3 as the luxury seat are worth it ~ Cathy
