This is a special course!
Jul 2019
If you are a golfer, then this is a must play course if you are in the area. The area has lots of courses but this is one of the best. We had a great lunch and great caddies, good weather with a bunch of wind. The only negative I could possibly mention is that there isn't much in the way of good merchandise in the proshop. Given the remarkable course, most Yanks would buy a good souvenir and especially a jersey if they had a better selection.

Dont miss this gem

I was one of four on a golf tour of Scotland and played several courses in and around Ayr including two open venues. Western Gailes was a fantastic golf course, well presented, and in our opinion only beaten by Turnberry - it really is that good and we highly recommend it and whilst it may appear expensive at initial view, we considered it worth every penny. If in the area again we would all definitely return.

Brilliant links

The club were very welcoming, we had an excellent lunch and then went out to play. Is there a finer links anywhere? Has to be up there.

Classic vintage course with over 100 years of history. Very easy on the golfer’s eye. Each hole is fair, what you see is what you get. No hidden trickery, this course doesn’t need it because nature takes care of that (dunes, rolling fairways, prevailing wind, heather, rough) if your ball goes looking for it! The clubhouse is probably the same as it was when first build. Old world charm, cosy and very welcoming. Locker room is like a step back in time. Shoe shine station, shoe horns, as well as fabulous shower facilities. Staff and members are all very friendly, welcoming and ready to assist or just chat!

Excellent condition and tough challenge in the wind! Most enjoyable. Highly recommended and justifies being in top 100 of best Scottish Course. Suggest pencilling in a five on par 4 17th.

Visited for the first time in years on my annual UK golf trip.
Despite very dry summer, very good condition. Warm welcome.
Stretch from #5 through 14 among the best in Links golf.
Don't miss it.

Links Golf at its best
Aug 2018 • Friends
After 2 previous trips to the UK for golf, I finally booked a round at Western Gailes after being told repeatedly by my friends that it was a "must play" course. My friends were right, and I now recommend this course without reservation. Yes it is located very near its Open venue rivals, Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry, but it definitely deserves consideration as a stop for any golf traveler visiting that area. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The caddies were fun and knowledgeable. Most importantly, the course was excellent, challenging, and fun. It is built right along the water with breathtaking views and beautiful, traditional dunes, mounds and swales that exemplify true links golf. Put this on your bucket list.

Wow!

This is a must play golf course, classic links, one of the best if not the best I have played in Scotland. Very welcoming, staff and members, everything you expect is quality, especially food and showers! Now the course, greens, fast but not too fast, fairways in excellent condition, overall presentation, tees and course superb. Every hole a real challenge, watch the bunkers from the tee, we played the whites, a real test with a fair wind as course is out and back. All the par threes are excellent, I would definitely recommend this club to all real links golf lovers.
