When James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail announced the opening of their 'centrical and commodious premises' on South Street,Elgin, on 24th May 1895 they would be proud to see it still trading today. When you visit the shop you will be greeted with the aroma of home cooked local gammon, the largest selection of the finest cheeses available in North East Scotland and shelves packed with a fantastic array of high quality grocery products. No visit to the Gordon & MacPhail store would be complete without a visit to the Whisky Room. Stocking around 800 different single malt whiskies, the Whisky Room attracts customers from throughout the world to its crowded shelves. Browsing through the wide selection of whiskies, many of which are very old and extremely rare, you have entered the Aladdin’s Cave of whisky.

Over 1,000 different Scotch whiskies to feast your eyes on. They have scheduled tasting and can set up special tasting for you or your group. They also have hidden due to new Scottish laws a nice selection of premium cigars but you have to ask for them. James was most accommodating in showing us around. Also gourmet meats and cheeses... We quite often pop in here if we are up town, they have a great deli counter. Also the whisky selection is second to none, prices can be slightly more expensive than other places but you are getting an upmarket service and products not found in many shops these days.

Gordon and MacPhail offers the most incredible selection of whisky from Scotland and a share of other things round the shop of high quality. This was most ignored as I made my way to the back end to the whisky dream factory. Bottling's that you can get readily in other shops come at a premium so are not worth purchasing... More

What a wonderful emporium stocking whisky, wines and spirits, delicatessan and artisan chocoltes. We came for the whisky of which they have over 1000 malts with very reasonable prices. They of course buy the casks from distilleries and bottle it under their own label. The staff are fantastic and very knowledable in all departments. There is disabled access and they have a customer lift to the... Was a little worried that it was a bit expensive at £30 per person, but we had a wonderful tasting. James did a great job and we enjoyed the pairing he did with the whisky and cheeses. I would highly recommend their tastings.

When we were there 2 americans were helped for a full half hour by both the shop employees. When finally someone was available for help the Linkwood we wanted to taste, the sole tastingbottle was apparently in a tasting. And they could not come up with a solution for that. Impressive whiskeys for sale, but not too impressed with the... More

This store is well worth a visit, especially if you are looking for presents to take home for friends. They have a huge selection of wines and spirits and beers. Also lots of boxed gifts of biscuits, sweets, jams and various other things. Something for everyone.

Well I'm not a whiskey drinker I was amazed at the selection of whiskeys on offer. Also a great range of wines and I would say every other alcoholic beverage imaginable. A good Deli selection and other foods, very reasonable priced. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. A great shop to browse.
