An outstanding landmark in Elgin
Mar 2020
In driving through Elgin the Lady Hill Castle is outstanding as is it is at the top of a hill and overlooks the town. If we had time we would have climbed the hill as the views from the top must be amazing.

Invigorating
Jan 2020
Whilst my wife had an appointment at the opticians, I decided to walk up this small hill in the centre of the city.
A lovely winter's day and I found this short outing invigorating. Straight away at the main entrance towards the steps, there were info signs/plaques. This continued en-route. An impressive monument and the remains of a castle are at the top of the short walk. A splendid 360 degree view of the surrounding area was worth seeing, away from ground level and listening to the traffic below.
I found that the direction plinth was way out with some of its bearings eg. The Bin (if it means the feature by Buckie?).
When I finished my historical site walk, my wife was still at the opticians.

An impressive landmark overlooking the town.
Oct 2019
Although very little remains of the old castle, the monument to the Duke of Gordon is very impressive and stands high above the town.

Great view
Jan 2019 • Friends
It's free of charge and you have to climb up some stairs. On the top you have a great view over Elgin and surroundings. Well worth a visit if you're in Elgin.

Beautiful view of Elgin, better than the cathedral and free. Best at nightfall, take the steps. Best to climb during the day as it approaches dusk.

Remains of Elgin castle/viewpoint
Oct 2018 • Friends
Otherwise signposted as "castle on the hill" but also known as Ladyhill. Central Elgin viewpoint with statue of the Duke of Gordon and sparse castle remains. As a fort,King Duncan's retreat from Macbeth in 1040. Built as a castle by king David in 1130,captured by the English king Edward in 1296 then recaptured by the scots who ironically partly destroyed it in case the English were to use it again! Short walk, free parking, handy view informative signs worth a pop up if in Elgin.

Hadn't been up here for years so we took the new path. Castle walls still much the same but the top grass area used to be kept short, now a bit overgrown. Lovely view of Elgin.
