Absolutely brilliant way to see some of Arran and learn an incredible amount about the island from one of the most knowledgeable tour guides I’ve ever experienced.
Alex is running an amazing business - the vehicle is impressive, the way he informs his clients of stories about the island is great and his passion for his trade is awesome to see.
Would advise that if you have some time in Arran and would like to see parts of the island where you can learn about historical sites, view some wildlife, stop for photos and a cup of tea and do so all from the comfort of a £180k army vehicle - then this is the trip for you!

We joined Mogabout in late December for a Forest tour with our two children aged 4 and 10. We all absolutely loved it! There is so much to see on Arran and the tour meant we ticked off a number of sites in one afternoon. Our tour guide new an incredible amount of knowledge about the island, it's history and it's future which we loved learning about. His love and passion for Arran really shone through and made it extra special. My husbands favourite was the Giants Graves and learning all about it, my favourite was the fairy story on the drive back and my kids favourite was when he made the Mogabout tip up! A really memorable day! Highly recommend!

Pre-booked before we came out here, glad we did so.
Suits any age, fun for all.
Golden eagles and an extremely rare White Deer, we couldn’t really ask for more!
The local touch was brilliant, delivered by someone who clearly loves his Island.
Watch out for the Unimog demo.......epic!
One of those trips you’ll regret if you don’t book!

On a rainy day with little visibility, Alex and his company made sure our family of 4 still could have a wonderful tour around the island. As the usual tour would've meant looking at fog for most of the trip, Alex thought out of the box and provided a custom tour combining the waterfalls with a beach visit so our oldest son could finally find some crabs under the rocks. He absolutely delighting us and our children, and I can strongly recommend booking a Mogabout tour!

Alex knows his stuff! Picked up from the Auchrannie carpark and taken on a tour of the hills in the Merc Unimog, we had a fantastic afternoon.
The history and even current events on Arran with the forestry industry, world war 2 subs, the reasons the water is so clear around the island, Alex has clearly studied it all and better yet, explained it all in a clear way that kept us interested all afternoon.
Taking us up the forestry tracks he displayed what the unimog's offroad capabilities are (much to the amusement of my son) while we still felt completely safe. He stopped a good number of times to allow for pictures and to tell us more details and took us out a walk at the Glenashdale falls, even taught my son about blaeberries and sorrel and foraging to keep him entertained.
When booking I initially thought it was quite expensive but after being out for the entire afternoon I can safely say it was worth every penny for a whole new experience! Definitely recommend.

Highly recommend this tour - the guide Alex really knows the island and provides a great tour with various stops and stories. Exceeded expectations - even those of hard to please teenagers. Great views and a thoroughly enjoyable trip out.

Not sure what to expect given the wind and rain of Storm Denis... But, sooo happy we chose to do this safari. The views were phenomenal and we reached places I could never have seen as a wheelchair user. Alex is an amazing host, historian and story teller. We learned so much about Arran and Alex managed to keep my teenagers happy too! I would definitely recommend this trip (particularly for people who are less mobile as a way to see and do things you cant normally see or do!) I will definitely be back

I had a very disappointing experience with this company. They emailed me late Friday evening to tell me that my tour had been cancelled for Saturday morning due to me being the only person who booked onto the tour. I totally understand that tours sometimes don't meet minimum numbers, but the lack of time I was given to make alternative arrangements was very unfair given that this is a remote island without many other options. I'm a young solo female traveler and had no hire car get around, or anyone to help me out, and not like theres a lot of tour operators on the island to just pick another. I didn't read the email until I was getting ready to leave for my day. I had about 10 mins to make a new plan for my day with limited internet and ended up having to rely on the bus service around the island which don't run frequently. At one point I ended up stranded in farmland and my phone ran out of battery. It was very lucky that a local lady found me and helped me out, but what if someone with bad intentions had found me instead? I booked this tour so I had a safe and reliable mode of transport, but I was left stranded anyway with £55 of my money tied up in the company that I didn't get refunded back to me until after I left the island. Had I of been given more notice, I could have planned a better bus route and had a better time. I left the island only having seen 2 of the things I wanted to see that were on the itinerary. My recommendation is just work out a plan yourself, if you've got more than one person, hire a car and do it that way. I've travelled to over 10 countries this year and somehow, my worst experience all year was on this island. Very disappointing.

Alex is a phenomenal tour guide! He is so enthusiastic and full of knowledge and it shines through whilst he shares his stories. This was the second time I did the Forrest tour and both times it has been so interesting. It is full of history, geography, breathtaking views and is thrill seeking - I would highly recommend!!

Great day out. We learnt so much from the knowledgeable guide who grew up on the island. Forest, beach, distillery. It's a great way of seeing the different elements of the island. Only two things to consider : 5 and a half hours though...with the first toilet opportunity after 4 hours so unless you're happy to pee in the woods ....secondly,big you want your group to sit together make sure you arrive early and board first as you are not allocated seats in your groups. I was a fool and turned up last so was not seated with my son and husband . This may be a bonus for some!! Definitely recommend. Bring your own sandwich.

Is the mogabout suitable for people who have trouble walking
Written June 10, 2021
Hello again. IT seems that the two distillery tour is now chauffeur driven and not by unimog - have I read this right?
Written August 27, 2019
Hi. The double dram tour and the North island tour are on the Mercedes Sprinter(always have been) forest safari on the Unimog. Please email me if you require more information at info@mogabout

Yes, will be opening dates soon.

I notice when reading the reviews that some people say there was a stop for a toilet break and others state that there was not, we have a trip booked with Autistic teen granddaughter who may need a quick stop.
Written August 22, 2018
That was my only down side, no toilet stop but the guy is very helpful so I'm sure if you ask him he can sort something out 😀

How much does it cost and is it worth it? Also is there a tour on the 25th of march
Written May 23, 2018
£35 and it is well worth every penny. I doubt that the company will know what their plans are for 25th March 2019 but their schedules are on their website, or give them a call

Hi
Visiting Arron in few days time , we have our dog with us can you accommodate a very well behaved springer spaniel dog , as the tour sounds great but can't leave the dog whilst we come on the trip ?
Written September 18, 2017
it looks like it's the Forestry Commission rule as stated in the terms. All animals with the exception of Guide Dogs must be excluded at all times from the tours on Forestry Commission land. Still, it's best to call as they may have some arrangement for keeping dogs for a few hours.

Hi,
Could you tell me how suitable this is for those with walking disabilities due to a back injury? Do you cross a lot of uneven ground that could make the journey uncomfortable etc?
Many thanks.

I'd book a tour that was mostly sightseeing - if a few steps up and down from the Mogabout are manageable. We didn't walk far at all really. All of the travel and most of the sightseeing can be done from the Mogabout or within a few steps of the vehicle. Hope this helps?
