I recently took my stroppy teenage son on a tour of the highlands by rail. I have travelled this line many times but was unsure if yawns and 'boring' would be hurled my way. I need not have worried, he was stunned by every inch of the beautiful landscape presented like a picture in front of us. I too found... More

You can sit back and let the best of Scotland unfold infront of your eyes on this train journey. If the scenery does not hynotise you then the bewilderment of witnessing unspoilt natural at its best will put you in a trance. This journey is a gift to anyone who needed time for reflection. Sit back and enjoy!

We travelled from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness - about a 2 1/2 hour journey. Some parts beside the sea, others by lochs, others in the highlands. Great scenery. Computer wasn't working so our reserved seats didn't happen but we managed seats with a window and table anyway which was what we had asked for. We booked well in advance... More

Fabulous Train Journey. Stopped at stations so small you had to request to stop and could only leave from one door as the platform was soo small. The Scenery was stunning when you get to the Kyle end. Definately a journey where you just sit back and look out the window for a few hours. Very relaxing.

Having read some of the reviews here about the trip, we were a little worried about the fact we had not pre booked tickets until the night before and therefore did not have allocated seats. We travelled on a Friday in July departing Inverness at 8.55 which gets to Kyle at 11.30. We expected the train to be busy however... More

Wonderful train journey taken from Dingwall, which is a lovely quaint well kept station with a great tearoom (Tina's Tearoom).

This train ride i well worth doing when you have to travel fromInverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. Beuatifull scenery, also (especially?) in bad weather. A lot of stations, some of them so small that the train is too long, and some of them only "on request".

It is an ordinary diesel train, but the single track line to Kyle of Lochalsh offers good views of the loch and the mountains on the far side. Liked: views - though what you can see depends on the weather. Disliked: Not that many trains - about 3 or 4 a day each way - so can't be used for... More
