Castle closed and surrounded by story boards which stop you seeing the castle. What you can see looks beautiful. Can only walk upto the viewing point. Lovely place to take a seat with a take away/packed lunch. Some lovely views to be had.

The castle looks spectacular but is spoilt by boards around the perimeter as work is being carried out. A good photograph is from the road below as you can't see the boards.

Walk around the castle walls and get good views of Inverness, the river and cathedral BUT... We had been told not to miss the viewing tower but it has been closed by Covid 19 since the spring and is unlikely to open while social distancing is in force. The building is being boarded up as the court has moved to new premises and its future is uncertain. Disappointing.

The Inverness Castle seemed to me to be the most significant landmark in all of Inverness. Centrally located, and perched well above the River Ness and the center of Inverness, this impressive structure is very grand and stately as it surveys all below in its domain. A trip or visit to Inverness would not be complete without a visit to The Inverness Castle and a long view from its high bulwarks overlooking the River Ness and the city itself. The Inverness Castle is also the northern terminus of The Great Glen Way so all GGW hikers are excited and pleased as they hurriedly make their way onto the Inverness Castle grounds on the completion of their hike.
