Inverness Cathedral was build from 1866 to 1869, on the shore of the River Ness, as the Protestant Cathedral Church of St Andrews, belonging of the Scottish Episcopal Church.
This Cathedral have an impressive external aspect, with two huge towers, and a carved portal.
Inside the Cathedral we admired the large nave, with two side galleries. We saw some massive columns, some beautiful stained glasses, carved wooden pews, and a wonderful mosaic on the floor.
The ten bells of this cathedral sound a special song.
Also, we visited an interesting souvenir shop.
The Cathedral worth a visit.

Some people may be dismissive of Inverness Cathedral as it is a 'modern ' cathedral. They are rather missing the point as it is historically important as the first new Protestant Cathedral to be built in Britain since the Reformation. It is also the most northerly cathedral in Britain.

I was given a warm welcome on entry and there wasn't a 'mandatory' £2 entrance fee when I visited although a donation or buying the guide book was appreciated.

I liked the cathedral which is a very good example of Gothic revival. It has a lovely carved choir screen which also serves as the war memorial to the members of the congregation who lost their lives in the First World War. Their names are inscribed on the bottom panels of the screen.

The carving on the choir stalls is exquisite and the Caen stone altar and reredos are stunning - take time to admire the workmanship.

There are some very good stained glass windows too.

The Butterfly Memorial is a touching tribute to those who died during the covid pandemic as well as a reminder to all of us of a black period in modern history.

There's a lot to find and enjoy in the Cathedral.

Situated in the centre of the city and at the side of the river Ness, this amazing structure, the st Andrews Cathedral can not be missed and worth visited. The architecture design, the massive granite columns, the carving of the stones, the stunning stained glass work, make this church a piece of art. Peaceful, spiritual and calming atmosphere to light a candle having a prayer. A must visit when in Inverness.

This is a very nice cathedral and we were allowed to walk all over it and they even have signs talking about a lot of the stained glass windows and the statues and symbols in the church. They don’t ask for money but there is a donation box and that is what helps them keep the doors open and things running. It was well worth giving them a few pounds for that.

This is an incredibly beautiful church, and I was so pleased that we were allowed to go inside and look around. They ask for a donation of £3 but we didn't have cash on us and they let us come in anyway. (My friend said afterwards that she did find a station inside where you could donate via credit card so she did that instead.)

The atmosphere was perfect; it was clearly a place of worship, and nobody was talking loudly or anything to disturb the hush. There was a couple who came in to pray at one point.

There are some placards explaining some items/areas/things of note in the church.

There's also a nice little café in a building right behind the church where we had tea afterwards, and where there are some things for sale to raise money for various church-related enterprises.

We were determined to visit the cathedral due to the rather bad-tempered short shrift it had received in the otherwise excellent study of British Cathedrals entitled Ships of Heaven. The author by his own admission was having a bad day, and his failure to appreciate this lovely little cathedral was his loss. The guide was really helpful, knowledgable and welcoming, and the fabric of the building was a pleasure to see and experience.

We always seem to pop into a cathedral when visiting somewhere new (not that we are religious, but because we are impresses with the architecture and artwork often found inside).

Inverness cathedral has beautiful stained glass windows and some stunning carpentry on display throughout but does seem a little more austere and less "bling" than most others. In many ways I'm impressed with that as I am often conflicted looking at the wealth on display in churches/cathedrals.

Free admission with donations welcomed.

All in all though a nice quick look around and it has a little cafe too.

A lovely cathedral to walk round with a small guide leaflet available pointing out the important artefacts. The stain glass windows are outstanding. Free entry although donations welcome.

I have seen reviews saying that you don't have to pay to enter the cathedral. They initially asked for a £1 donation and now there is a mandatory £2 entrance fee established, so for a group of 30, you have to pay £60. Something to factor into your visits to Inverness, whereas you can visit all the other sites for free.

The cathedral’s architecture is beautiful and the grounds are well maintained. Our only disappointment was that the Cathedral was closed on a Sunday afternoon. We would have liked to see the inside of the building, particularly the stained glass windows. The carvings on the exterior are very good.
