The overnight trains are expensive, so particularly for the Edinburgh option do you realise that it's less than 5 hours city centre to city centre- yes it's an extra night in a hotel but is likely to be more comfortable and you will see some great country particularly from York northwards. You can leave London Kings Cross station at 8am and be in Edinburgh by1230?

Hi! we will like some help with insights or ideas about this itinerary. We are a young couple, don't mind to drive, like scenic views and want to have a snapshot of the best places in scotland. We came up with this itinerary. What do you think? Any place we are missing or something not worth the drive visiting? Day 1: Edinburgh Night in Edinburgh Day 2: 3hs train to Inverness Visit Inverness and do a cruise on Loch Ness. Night at Inverness Day 3/4: Rent a car and visit Eilean...More

I would like to lay out most of our trip and get suggestions from this great and generous forum. We are arriving in Edinburgh and staying only 2 days because of the marathon. Is it necessary to see Brittanica and Rosslyn castle? Day 3 to Pitlochry, Blair castle and Festival theatre if I can get tickets. Day 4 to Aviemore area and Cairngorms and funicular. Day 5 to Drumnadrochit, Urquhart castle, Culloden and Clava cairns passing through Inverness. Day 6 to Thurso and then late afternoon ferry...More

Are you into the Royal Family? That determines whether or not you do the Royal Yacht Brittania? Bit confused by days 19/20? You say to explore Ft William and Stirling area, then you are making your way to Oban for Mull? I would suggest you look at the Map again because if you intend to include Stirling that is one helluva detour between Ft Willliam and Mull!!!! Can't you do Stirling on the outward bound portion? You pass it on the A/M9 between Edinburgh and Blair Atholl! Also are you...More
