My best friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour with John - it was a highlight of our 2+ week stay in Scotland. John was responsive as we scheduled our tour, stayed in touch as the tour date approached in order to coordinate pick-up, and promptly met us at our accommodations on the day of our adventure. The car was... More

We had a wonderful day exploring parts of Scotland that we would not have gotten to otherwise. This was the way to do it! John was great company and a wealth of information about this area. I would highly recommend his company to anyone!

If you're reading this you've already started doing research into tours of Scotland and you may have realized by now that John is the only choice. We spent the day with him going to Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns, and Cawdor Castle before heading out to our distillery tour to finish up the day. The tour with John is like driving... More

Hebridean Explorer John Alasdair MacDonald led we three old friends on a day tour from Inverness to Skye. John has a degree in Scottish history, is a born story teller and solicitous of our needs. He learned to cut and dry peat to warm the family home in his boyhood Gael speaking home. At twelve he learned to work on... More

To put it simply - John is great ( even if he has to rightly so :-) keep apologizing for the other Macdonalds throughout Scottish history) with a wonderful sense of humor for putting up with Americans several centuries removed from the homeland! the four of us thoroughly enjoyed his insights into Scotland past and present. We stayed in Inverness... More

My boyfriend and I were looking for a private tour around Inverness, the Isle of Skye, and Orkney in Northern Scotland. John has separate tours for each of these areas. We booked the separate tours several months in advance for the month of July, which is his busiest tour month. From the initial email correspondences he was extremely professional and... More

The absolute highlight of our weeklong visit to Scotland was the 1-day Isle of Skye tour with John Macdonald. We knew we wanted to see the Isle of Skye and could not possibly have covered as much ground without John's expertise and familiarity with the area. An added bonus was his absolute charming and engaging personality. He was prompt in... More

I am writing a review to let potential clients of John Macdonald know how great of an experience it was taking a tour with him. My girlfriend and I took a tour with him on May 2, 2016. We had apprehensions about spending 11 hours in a car driving around with a stranger but upon meeting John, we realized it... More

John Macdonald took us to Speyside to tour distilleries one day, and Skye a week later. In between we motored down the Caledonian Canal by boat. Our first trip with John truly enriched our entire holiday; he regaled us with colorful stories about clans, Scottish culture, and the natural beauty of the land. It gave us a glimpse into why...
