We hired John for the trip to the northern Isle of Skye. John is knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating and organized. Although it is an 11 hour day trip, he planned an enjoyable day with frequent stops, and the time flew. It was a very good day of sightseeing and conversation on historical and modern culture. The weather was also gorgeous. We... More

This is our second tour with John and we ended the trip by planning our next tour with him. John is a charming and kind man. He is also a historian who can answer any of your questions about Scotish history. We peppered him with questions both trips and he answered even deeper than I would have expected, putting historical... More

My husband and I spent the day with John and thoroughly enjoyed every moment! We did an 11 hour tour and the time really did fly by. John is incredibly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to answer all of our questions. He was also on top of making sure we stayed on schedule and ahead of the larger tour... More

Our Highlands tour with John MacDonald exceeded every expectation and inspired more research and a great place in our heart for the Scottish Highlands. My husband's family had clan roots which we thought we might get some insight to, but John delivered intense history of all the clans, who liked whom, who fought for whom, who won, lost, cried, etc.... My best friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour with John - it was a highlight of our 2+ week stay in Scotland. John was responsive as we scheduled our tour, stayed in touch as the tour date approached in order to coordinate pick-up, and promptly met us at our accommodations on the day of our adventure. The car was... More

We had a wonderful day exploring parts of Scotland that we would not have gotten to otherwise. This was the way to do it! John was great company and a wealth of information about this area. I would highly recommend his company to anyone!

If you're reading this you've already started doing research into tours of Scotland and you may have realized by now that John is the only choice. We spent the day with him going to Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns, and Cawdor Castle before heading out to our distillery tour to finish up the day. The tour with John is like driving... More

Hebridean Explorer John Alasdair MacDonald led we three old friends on a day tour from Inverness to Skye. John has a degree in Scottish history, is a born story teller and solicitous of our needs. He learned to cut and dry peat to warm the family home in his boyhood Gael speaking home. At twelve he learned to work on... More

To put it simply - John is great ( even if he has to rightly so :-) keep apologizing for the other Macdonalds throughout Scottish history) with a wonderful sense of humor for putting up with Americans several centuries removed from the homeland! the four of us thoroughly enjoyed his insights into Scotland past and present. We stayed in Inverness... More
