About
Lyth Arts Centre, deep in the Caithness countryside, is housed in a beautiful old building surrounded by trees and aged stone walls. From the outside it retains the character of a Victorian village school but the interior has been imaginatively converted to a dynamic multi-purpose arts centre. The programme of events includes live music, theatre, art exhibitions and other events. Office Hours are Mon-Fri 9am-5pm Exhibition Opening times are from 1st July - 31st Aug. 12pm - 5pm Every Day
Duration: 1-2 hours

Far out in the North Eastern corner of Scotland lies this little pearl of a culture centre. The staff is amazing, food good, tea warm and the performances are of high quality. What is not to like?

We stopped here briefly en-route from John O’ Groats as weather conditions were too choppy to take a wildlife cruise.
Lyth Arts Centre is about a 3-4 mile drive off the A99. We went to see the Stroma exhibition which displayed two sculptures in a room, which excellent narrative on the artists and the art work provided. We were really taken by the installation.
In addition, there were three audio recordings of interviews with locals who had lived on the (now uninhabited) island of Stroma, which you could listen to on headphones.
There were further prints and a small exhibition catalogue/leaflet on display. In the next room, there was an arts education event happening for children and a tasty looking bar/cafe run by the Whaligoe Steps Bar and Restaurant.
Looking at the programme, we’ve missed some lovely looking arts and music events here and will be back for sure.
If you enjoy modern arts and music with a focus on the local area and a commitment to community outreach, this place is to visit.

Very much enjoyed the summer exhibition celebrating 40 years of Lyth Arts. A well presented and diverse collection of work with local connections in a lovely setting. Staff were very friendly, there is a lounge/cafe area to enjoy a cup of tea - worth a visit if you are in the area, and only a couple of miles inland off the North Coast 500 route. Looks like an exciting programme of live music and drama coming up over the next few months too.

We went to see the Bevvy Sisters last night and were blown away by their musical range and sense of humour. We particularly enjoyed the MIchael Marra covers. The venue was well organised, friendly and comfortable. Willie Wilson has made a rare gift to the Far North.

We decided to visit on a very rainy and stormy day. The art that was there was beautiful it is a small gallery and we weren't there for long but it was a nice place to visit. The gentleman working there was very friendly as well. Definitely a nice place for a visit.
