Worthwhile

Scenery en route is amazing & final destination doesn't disappoint. Try the John O Groats brewed beer. Guy who runs it is very interesting & happy to share his experiences

Just a signpost!
May 2021 • Family
Not a lot going on here, not organised in any way. A collection of shops and little cabins serving takeaway is all there is. The signpost and out look are lovely but nothing else here, no history on display or photo stories.
The car park greets you and gives a municipal air and that’s as good as it gets (particularly if compared to Lands End).

It has to be done...........I guess!!

John o Groats, like Lands End, has become over commercialised. Thank goodness we were here in May and not the height of the summer! The scenery is certainly impressive and you can incorporate that in your photographs. Once done head for Duncansbay Head which is far superior!

End of the road

Whilst driving the NC500 during relatively quite times it felt Braw pulling into an almost empty car park besides the signpost which also offers stunning views across to Southern Orkney islands.
There are plenty of craft shops onsite and there are plenty of sites offering accommodation.

A must do activity at John O'Groats

It is one of those iconic things you need to get your photo taken beside. Do yo Covid restrictions you couldn't get someone else to take phot so it had to be a selfie this time

You made it this far to take a "sign selfie"
Oct 2020
The most northerly town in the UK. The sign has been recently upgraded but still a massive tourist destination for visitors up in this neck of the woods. Even in mid October there were a reasonable number of people waiting patiently for their turn for the "sign selfie".

Oh dear, not welcoming ...
Sep 2020
We arrived on a wind swept and rainy Sept Monday, which made the whole place look grey. Everything was closed, so all we could do was take the ubiquitous photo under the mileage sign-post :-(

Of course it is a touristy place but that is the fun of it. Plenty to view and eat. Petrol station not far. Plenty of parking. I have been to Lands End, now this for distance but don't confuse this with the farthest point north. Dunnet Head holds that title.
With that being said, pick up you souvenir's, grab a bite to eat, take pictures and do some hiking. Well worth the visit.

A must on the NC500 road trip
Oct 2020 • Couples
This is often mistakenly referred to as the northernmost point in mainland Britain (but this is actually nearby Dunnet Head), but it does have a famous signpost that is worth a pic!

Lovely little place
Sep 2020
John O'Groats seemed to be a surprisingly nice place without all of the commercialisation of Lands End. There's a few little gift shops (Dog Friendly) to look around and if you're lucky like we were, some great views of the local fishermen and the distant islands.

We didn't have to wait very long to get our picture taken with the sign (now free of all stickers which can go on a separate board nearby) and asked another family to do it for us while we reciprocated.

We almost didn't realise that you have to pay for the car park but it was only £2 so well worth it.
