What a beautiful ruin! I love old buildings, especially if I can find out a bit about them, and thankfully the Priory has a lot of information on boards dotted around about. We went on a cold and beautifully clear January day, which I’m sure made the trip even better. We walked around a while and found it very peaceful, but also a shame that bits of it have disappeared. That being said, had a great visit and would definitely recommend to other folks passing through the area - we had to do a small detour - was worth it!

Beauly was a pleasant stop on a visit to this beautiful area recently. I was really taken with the priory. Easy access off the main road and town, we were able to walk around the priory and enjoy the red sandstone buildings. A great attraction to visit for free in a very special town.

A beautiful ruin. Walk around the Abbey and adjacent graveyard reading the story board and learn of the visit of Mary Queen of Scots. In late evening can be really quite haunting. A true piece of highland history. Bus stops right outside from Inverness and entry is free.

This is a very small village just 10 miles or so west of the city of Inverness at the west edge of the Beauly Firth. We went there to see the Beaufort Castle which was used for filming exteriors for Outlander. That is a private residence, however, so we passed on trying to see it.

However, we stumbled upon the very interesting old ruins of the Beauly Priory church and graveyard.

If you are heading west from Inverness, I would definite recommend stopping.

We set off from Inverness early on a Sunday morning for our 500 mile+ tour of Scotland and Beauly is the first village en route. Despite the shops etc still being shut we were able to walk around the ruins of this priory both inside and out.
The information boards explain the history of the priory and you get a real sense of history whilst standing in it's midst.
Definitely worth a stop

I’m not too sure why people say this is a ‘must see’ and I’m a history graduate. It’s a small priory that would take you less than 30 minutes to look around, so if it’s on your way check it out, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.

Beauly is a lovely village with some great lunch spots (corner on the square) and an amazing (but high quality and a high price) highland attire shop called Campbells. So there is a bit more to do than just the priory.

My wife and I stayed there for 1 night and wish it had been longer. We got a phone call the day before we arrived to check what was required in our room due to COVID which also sped the check in up.
The staff were helpful and friendly.
We had dinner and breakfast and the food was of a high standard. Although it is a fairly decent size of hotel it has a family feel around it

lovely place to visit. Website said it was closed but you can still access most of it. Beautiful in autumn even in the rain. Nice guide boards providing interesting info and insight. In the centre of a nice village, which is nice to walk around. Easy parking
