Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside.Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!

Just back from travelling on Santa express. We took our 2 yr old who is terrified at Santa and we had a successful time. We boarded train which was nicely decorated. We were offered a mince pie/sausage roll/Christmas cake. Mulled wine/cider/tea/coffee/juice. Drawing for the kids. Santa came round and spoke with all the kids. Giving a present. He was followed... We booked months in advance and were really excited for Christmas Lunch on a steam train. We spent over £100 as a couple and made a six hour round trip for the dining experience - unfortunately we were left underwhelmed and disappointed. The menu was lovely, and the food was nice but nothing special. The drinks menu was disappointing, and... More

I am probably biased because I love steam trains. Staff are very friendly and dogs are welcome(what a nice change). The scenery is great too.

What a lovely experience on a rainy English Sunday morning. Thank goodness for historic railway volunteers. Beautifully restored steam engine, authentic historic station and passenger cars as well. It was so charming to be in an old carriage pulled at about 15 miles per hour across the green, English farming countryside with the steam blowing past your window and the... More

My wife done this with our 4yr Niece whilst My son and I done Shooting at Alvie Estate. Many elves to be had and of course Santa. Elves came round with letter for writing to Santa with badge. Then ladies came round serving either tea, coffee, mulled wine or Cider for adults and fruit juice for kids. Also choice of... More

Had a very enjoyable 2 hour trip on the Santa Express with two 5 year olds. Time seemed to fly by so it must have been fun. Loads of staff on hand (and in costume) to assist if needed. We booked in advance so ticket collection was swift and hassle free. A local craft company (with very enthusiastic staff) were... More

Fantastic service and food. Took my elderly parents for a wee treat. Food was fabulous. Staff could not have been more helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the service from the staff was fantastic. And as for Spud the piper he was also fantastic. Great atmosphere and helpful friendly staff and delish food.... More

This was meant to be a special Christmas treat for our staff night out. all 7 of us attended and our mouths were watering at the Christmas Menu and made the "difficult" decisions on what to have. However, the reality was very different from the promised and the meal was not good! The food was tasteless and not presented well.... More

Had a great little journey on the Santa Express, from Aviemore to Broomhill. The train was decorated for Christmas and the conductors looked exceptionally smart in their traditional uniforms. Great attraction keeping the magic of steam travel alive.

We travelled on The 'Santa Express' on Sunday 13th and it was great fun. We had 2 x 3 year olds with us and 4 adults in the party so we chose to go first class (so we had a compartment for ourselves for 6 people) . All the 1st class compartments had nice tinsel Christmas decorations up and a... More
