My wife and I booked a full day walk with Tim, and couldn't have had a better time! He was very organized with booking and gear details, billing, and pick up from our hotel. The walk was about 11 miles, a circuit including Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm, and was absolutely spectacular (though in cold windy conditions). Tim was happy to slow down when we wanted to take photos and answered all our questions about the flora and fauna- he is not only an accomplished walker but also a fount of knowledge! Highly recommend Tim (and his dog Moray) for an active trip out in the Cairngorms.

Tim is a super guide and I really enjoyed my overnight Taster Trek. It was a great opportunity to spend a night out on the hills while being safe in the knowledge that Tim and Moray were there to look after me if anything went wrong.

Tim was both knowledgeable about the area and local wildlife and also unobtrusive, giving my husband and me time to quietly absorb the beauty of the place. He was patient when I wanted to stop and take photos or rest, never rushing us. Tim was perfectly organized; had necessary gear; knew exactly where he was going. Absolutely top-rate in every way!

My husband and I went on a one-night taster trek with Tim Hall during our honeymoon. Tim met us in Aviemore in the afternoon with all of the camping gear, including a tent, sleeping bags, mats, and liners, backpacking packs, cooking equipment, and food. We brought daypacks which turned out to be unnecessary, water bottles, snacks, cameras, and hiking clothes/boots. He drove us to our hike in the Cairngorms, where we started from a popular visitors center. As we hiked on, the crowd thinned out until we were completely on our own. Tim took us to an absolutely beautiful camping spot, with great views both at camp and on the way there. We set up camp and ate dinner. Tim brought food that was super easy to cook, accommodated my vegetarian diet, and tasted quite good (especially after a long hike). After dinner it was still light enough to hike up a nearby peak. The next morning we packed up and hiked a different route out, and got back to Aviemore around 11 am. Tim was an excellent guide, and told us lots of interesting things about the plants and wildlife, as well as some history and legends of the area. We spent 10 days in Scotland for our honeymoon and that camping trip was definitely one of the highlights. Tim was also very responsive when I was planning the trip....I highly recommend Out in the Hills.

I had the objective of bagging the 3,4 and 5th highest peaks in the UK and over the course of 12hours Tim got me there.
I wanted a guide for this walk as it is remote with a boggy middle section that is virtually pathless. Given that Braeriach was about 8 miles from the start and being a linear walk finishing in the remote Glen Feshie it was great not to walk it alone and pick up some great tips from a qualified mountain guide.
Tim pointed out many interesting features, such as the source of the river Dee that we were close to.
It was a wet cloudy day which in many ways made it far more atmospheric, walking in the deep gloom.
Tim knew the route inside out and his updates re time to go based on my pace were very accurate. It was a relief to reach ‘Susan’s cairn’ which marked the final descent as after almost 20 miles this was the longest walk I’d completed in many years.
I also appreciated the photos Tim took.
Would I hire ‘Out in the Hills’ again? Yes and without hesitation. In the Cairngorms, a long way from the start point expertise is priceless and helps you get far more from the experience.
Tim had arranged to pick me up from the Glenmore campsite at the start of the day and we were collected from Glen Feshie and I was returned to my campsite at the end. 10/10. Thank you.

My husband and I took two day-walks with Tim in the Cairngorms. We are both in our 60s, yet very active and quite experienced hikers.

We had been to Scotland several times before and had also already climbed several munroes on our own. Still, we didn't want to do the Cairngorms tours alone as we thought it might not be easy to find the right way through the terrain - so we asked Tim to be our guide, and this proved to be the best decesion of this year's Scotland trip. We had two amazing hiking days with Tim! We climbed a total of three munroes (day 1: Ben Macdui, Cairngorm ; day 2: Sgór Gaoith). The routes we took were often cross-country, through dense fields of heather, across ridges, rocks and brooks and the weather conditions sometimes were quite a thing as well (or should I simply say: Scottish?) - rain, strong winds, fog, the typical Highland mist - but all of this was no problem at all; quite on the contrary, it really turned out to be an exciting and unique experience and encounter with the Scottish nature - and Tim really made all the difference: if we hiked alone, we would most probably have gotten completely lost, and we would have also missed out on Tims background info on the Cairngorms along the way.

Tims dog Moray also accompanied us on both days, which took the whole experience to another level as well. After ending the trip, Tim sent us photos and maps and descriptions of our routes, which we didn't expect at all, so it was a great surprise and will let us remember this amazing trip.

So thank you, Tim, for these wonderful days!
If you consider going on a hiking trip in the Cairngorms or elsewhere in the Highlands - do consider taking Tim - it's surely gonna be a great experience!

Tim took us (my husband, myself, and our 15 yr old son) on a full day(about 7 hrs) hike from Aviemore. It was amazing! Tim was patient with our pace (okay, with my husband's and my pace- our son kept up with him just fine, lol). He was very knowledgeable of the geology and history of the area. We managed to "bag" two mountain tops! Not bad for a couple of middle-aged non-athletes. He took us off trail to a great vista where we sat and had our snacks. This was the pinnacle of our week-long stay in the Cairngorms. If we had done this on our own, not only would we have most likely not gotten to the top of even one mountain, but we would have missed the off-trail vista and all the history and science of the area. We also would have missed spending the day with his adorable dog, Moray. We higher recommend Tim & Moray as your guides! Afterwards he emailed us a map of our hike and links to some great photos he took of us.

We booked with Tim to guide us up Cairngorm via the Northern Corries we found Tim to be very knowledgable about all aspects of our walk. We even got to hear a ptarmigan although we didn't see one it was great to hear one. Tim was very relaxed and expressed the fact it was our day out and we wouldn't be rushed. We had a fantastic day out in the Cairngorms curtesy of Tim coupled with all his knowledge.
Many Thanks

I could not have 'bagged' the mighty Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm without Mr 'Out in the Hills' Tim Hall. His confidence, knowledge and encouragement overcame the elements on a day when standing upright was a challenge and swirling cloud threatened to disorientate the less accomplished hillwalker. From pick-up to drop-off, Tim delivered a safe, enjoyable and informative day for exceptionally good value for money.

I contacted Tim last Christmas with the loose plan of climbing a few of the highest Munros in the Cairngorms. Tim suggested two day walks and was very efficient and professional in his dealings in advance of my trip to Scotland.

I found Tim to be an excellent guide - well-organised, courteous, knowledgeable and good company and the walks he suggested were very scenic and with the right level of challenge. I have no hesitation in recommending Out in the Hills and hope to return to the Cairngorms again before long.
