Visited this lovely square in Glasgow taking in the vibes and looking for a restaurant . It was a lovely June Day ( dry for a change ) and it was pleasant . Cosmopolitan and surrounded by different tourists and accents . Scottish piper in...More

This thoroughfare is well situated for several good shopping streets, Restaurants ,Bars, Cinemas, Theatres and Transport. Apart from all that it has very little significance apart from the tribute to Nelson Mandela. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a tourist attraction and...More

Glasgow Stock Exchange was here for many years, hence the stunning buildings overlooking the Church in the Squares centre. Have a good look at the buildings, and the sleeping Jesus statue. It is a tribute to Nelson Mandela as the South African embassy was here...More

Nelson Mandela Place was so named as a show of solidarity with the great man and the city's opposition to the apartheid system then in place in South Africa. The name was also significant by the fact that the then South African consulate-general was based...More

This can be found just off Buchanan Street nearby the underground station. A nice tribute to this great man who sacrificed so much. I have been to Robbin Island just off Cape Town where he was incarcerated for many yours. His conditions were horrendous.

Nelson Mandela place was named in honour of the great man. There’s a church located at the site that looks nice

A nice tribute to a great man from the city. A small square that is dominated by a church with a cafe.

Well worth asking about ( or Google) how this street came to be named. Apparently, Glasgow was the first city to honour Nelson Mandela. This attracted criticism but eventually others followed.

There is a nice church building situated at the centre of Nelson Mandela Place. It's on the edge of Buchanan Street which you will probably walk along as you are moving about Glasgow.

To be honest, I didn't even know that we were in Nelson Mandela Place -after leaving from Hard Rock Cafe- before I saw plate on the wall. Lot to see and do nearby, so why not stop here at the same time. It's always a...More
