    Fantastic Venue
Seen some bands here over the decades and it’s quite unique in the sense that, because of the acoustics, the crowd are quite audibly singing the songs and passionately so. Something that is lost in an outdoor venue. Forget all the soor pooses yammering on about the obvious need for a makeover, the ambiance would be lost in a heart beat. If you have never seen a band here, make a point of changing that. It’s a damn site better than the antiseptic cavern that is the Hydro.

    Iconic Venue
Attended a concert here (The Mountain Goats). The neon sign outside and star-covered ceiling inside are really iconic, and the sound was great. There are a lot of stairs, so be aware of that if you have any sort of mobility issue (I think they have accessibility options for people with disabilities, but there are, of course, also people who have unrecognised mobility issues or who are simply tired after doing sightseeing before the concert/standing in queue outside). Please also be aware that the cloakroom is 2 pounds per item, but they accept card payments. Tap water was free (well, either that or I accidentally stole some?), which I think is really important for health and safety of concert-goers (at my local concert venue a single cup of water is 6 pounds).

    Scream for me Glasgow!!!
We had a ball at the recent Bruce Dickinson gig at the Barras. Our first ever gig happened to be Iron Maiden at this very venue back in 1998 so it was fabulous to see Bruce gracing the same stage many years later! It was a great atmosphere. Everyone around us was up for enjoying the gig, with no nonsense like constantly talking over the music, thankfully, and it was a bonus to experience the Barras roar without the accompanying beer rinse for once. All the staff we encountered were efficient and friendly from the security staff to the barman who was full of the Glasgow patter when the hubby asked if there was a charge for a glass of water “it’s free of course, it’s tap water!!”. The way it should be!

Just saw The Sisters of Mercy here. Fantastic gig, but as a person with mobility issues, I have to say that the Ballroom skates perilously close to being illegal. It takes 2 flights of stairs to get to the stage area - no lifts. Walking up is bad enough, leaving was even worse, with the pressure of other people constantly pushing behind me. Staff were lovely and stepped in to help, but they shouldn't have to. I know, it's old and 'iconic'. That's no excuse. The owners need to sort out proper disabled access before someone gets hurt.

What an awesome venue full stop. We went to see OCS in December and they didn't disappoint it was a Tuesday night and the venue was rammed. So glad i got to take in the atmosphere before they went on stage and what a night it was.

The male event staff have some sort of power complex going on especially a bald male with an english accent that likes to manhandle women unnecessarily and stand up in the middle of a performance and shout " Is he just being an arse" repeatedly. I understand safety is a priority but a lot of the staff behaviour was unacceptable.

Through my years of gigging the Barrowlands have the worst staff in Glasgow.

Venue is fine otherwise. Staff needs an adjustment.

Finally after wanting to visit for several years i had my first visit to Barrowland's on a very wet Glasgow night. Made up to see the the name lit up outside and great warm welcome from the security on the doors. Had a great gig with a very well behaved crowd. Easy access to toilets and bars. Look forward to my next visit.

I visited the Barrowland Ballroom for the first time on 03/04/15 with my partner to see 'Charlie & The Bhoys' - I had never heard of the group nor do I support any football team.
We arrived at 7PM and there was a line right up the full length of the venue, people were banging shutters and being extremely disruptive but nothing was done. We eventually got into the venue at approx. 7.30PM.
I do not drink however my partner does and was charged £4 for a draft cider in a plastic cup which is simply shocking.
There was a sign advising the smoking area would be open from 8.30PM however the staff did not open it until 9.40PM despite a large crowd gathering and no member of staff would give any reason as to why we were all waiitng, I went out into the smoking area for some air and my hand was stamped, the smoking area was stairs leading you out of the venue and onto the same street which we lined from but there was a barrier. The barrier had a 3ft gap and we were told when we were finished, to re-enter via the main door we came in from and leave through the gap in the barrier. I did this and when I showed my hand stamp at the main entry a larger gentleman with dark hair and a beard said 'Away you go' as I had left the barrier, I told him I was told to leave the barrier and re-enter via the main door but he advised me that was not his problem, I would not be allowed entry back in and continued to reiterate the words 'away you go', I felt totally embarrassed at the way I was treated over a lack of communication which was the fault of the staff. I went to another door and explained the situation to a younger gentleman who was very helpful in letting me back in. I find it shocking that despite my belongings being inside the venue, the larger gentleman would not allow me entry.
The toilets are absolutely atrocious, there was no hand towels, the floors were sticky, the toilets had clearly not been cleaned in a very long time.
Overall, I had one of the worst nights of my life in this venue, I felt completely unsafe, the staff were absolutely clueless and rude, the venue itself is totally horrific and needs a makeover (or a bulldozer) - the staff (particularly the larger gentleman who was on the door with dark hair, beard and a beanie hat) need urgent BASIC customer service training. I will never return.

Went to see Vintage trouble so was extremely excited and checking the website of the venue it said disabled access so i thought great, Phoned to book tickets and heard the word every wheelchair user dreads and that's STAIRS!!!! and to make matters worse there is no lift...Not till 2016 anyway!!!! But i went anyway just to prove i could do it..The staff at the door were very professional at getting me upstairs but one word of cautin the toilets are on a different level from the gig so go to the loo beforehand...need to decide if i am going again.

Special thanks to the staff who made my trip to see my favourite band completely hassle free. I am on crutches and had to go to the disabled platform - fantastic view of stage but more importantly the staff were so kind especially if I had to use the toilet etc. Fantastic venue for a gig anyway but really blown over by the staff in their attempts to ensure it was a memorable experience .
