The interior surprised me; the exterior looked like it was built 19th century but the inside has been totally renovated; it’s very white with painted decorations such as blue ribbons outlined in gilt swirled around columns, a lot of gilt around the altar, gilt at the tops of the columns; old stained glass windows used as decor on the walls; blond wood pews and blond wood altar, very subdued. Only two side chapels, one with a classical Madonna and Child sculpture surrounded by a very modern abstract metallic sculpture. The outdoor area had a reflecting pool and lots of shiny silver monoliths with religious sayings inscribed on them. All in all, not what I expected so always good to challenge myself! It didn’t particularly appeal to me aesthetically but while I was there at least six people came in and it seems to be well used by the local community.

What on earth has happened to the choir at this beautiful Cathedral? Haven't been there since Christmas last year where the experience was heavenly and the choir were angelic, but yesterday's 12 o'clock Mass was like attending a rock concert with guitars and drums and screaming singers. Dreadful. Not what we expected at a high mass in a cathedral at all. Would not recommend.

We went to Morning Worship with a good choir. Friendly welcome from the volunteers and a lovely service. The nave is very impressive and the stained glass on the north wall is interesting including a very nice modern window. You can see the mason's marks on the columns in the choir.

A great visit to a very old Cathedral, some of the brickwork at the front that I could see has been replaced with new bricks, this is caused because the original bricks are that old and suffered with some erosion over time.
It is very impressive from the outside and you can get a great view of it from the back if you walk up to the Necroplolis behind. That view reminded me of St Vitus in Prague but smaller.
You need to scan a QR code and book at the present time to gain entry, I hadn't planned my visit so I managed to book myself in at the entrance with no problem
Once inside the cathedral interior is just as good and there is full Covid safeguarding in place with a one way system to follow.
It was still very quiet when I visited at 10am
Well worth an hour of anyones time to visit
And the big bonus here is that it is free which is a surprise for any cathedral nowadays.
As far as I am concerned all places of worship should be free to enter so thank you Glasgow for an enjoyable visit

The cathedral is stunning and the architecture is breathtaking. My husband and I wanted to stay for mass but wish we hadn’t. The music was the worst I’ve heard in any church. No wonder the priest looked and sounded utterly miserable

St Andrew's Cathedral is on the banks of the River Clyde. It is a short walk from the main part of the city centre.
It is not near the main Glasgow Cathedral so don't get confused. It is a really nice building. A traditional building amongst some more modern structures.

We attended the Sunday mass at St Andrews Cathedral in Glasgow. The church is nice and the service was good. They ended mass with Amazing Grace which was a nice touch.

This Cathedral was amazing. It's a medieval cathedral and some parts are being restored. It's a must see.

St. Andrews RC Cathedral is well worth a visit when in Glasgow - the architecture is excellent and the sense of spirituality is tangible - highly recommended.

This is the RC cathedral in Glasgow. Close to the river and easy to find. It is a good thing to do on a cold and /or rainy day in this lovey city.

Your post about St Andrew's Cathedral in Glasgow would actually seem to be about St Mungo's Cathedral. St. Andrew's is on the river and is not a huge building.

No it's not a huge building but it is very beautiful and it has a great location right next to the riverside and there is a lot of history attached to it the car park at the rear was once a workhouse as far as. Know.
