This is the fourth year we have booked with west end adventure: in previous years we have had family days paddle boarding which was amazing and this year we used their school holiday club for our two boys. Would highly recommend. The kids are out in the fresh air, taking part in new and interesting activities with friends. I would recommend phoning the office when booking : the customer representative who helped me get the right groups on the right days was so helpful and made the whole process extremely easy and stress free.

My friend and I had a great laugh! we booked a taster kayaking session with itison. It was 90 mins on the water near Westerton train station. Booking went smoothly and the instructions were clear. On arrival there were temporary tents to get changed due to covid. You then leave your items in their secured van whilst in the water. It was a fun way to try out kayaking in the city and the kids at the session had a ball so I'd recommend it for children in particular.

My 11 year old daughter and her friend loved this day out together. They were in a group with 6 others of similar age with 2 instructors and they went to Luss for a busy and fun day out in the Loch paddle boarding. The instructors made it a fun day, by playing games in the water to keep them occupied. They were really lucky with the weather too, making it a special fun day for them to remember. Beats any other school holiday organised activity group they have attended before.

Wetsuits, paddle boards and all equipment provided for. The girls liked their instructors. Well organised, fun trip.

Only small negatives were that it was advertised as kayaking and paddle boarding. I thought they would have been doing both activities. The girls preferred full day of paddle boards but it would have been disappointing if it was full day of kayaking when it was paddle boarding they were most looking forward to.
My daughter was nominated to carry waterproof bag with everyone's lunches. She was happy to help with this but felt but unfair that it was only her and 1 other person that shared carrying of this heavy bag which restricted some of the things that everyone else was able to do like spinning around.
So clearer information about activities being provided and more sharing of carrying lunches or even drop them off at lunch spot could make this great day out, even better.

If you have a specific activity that you or your children want to take part in, contact them to check that will be provided.

I have waited to leave this review as I wanted to give Andrew and team a chance to respond, but as of yet they have ignored both emails which I have sent.
Note- these children were aged 10-14 years.
It seemed very organised at the beginning with the waiver being signed in advanced etc so I was hopeful for a great experience.
Getting to the loch was also excellent. The man who seemed to work in the shop was fun and engaging with the children. When we got there it seemed to unfold and unravel. For me a party should be fun and engaging, there was one game played and absolutely no photos or videos even though we signed the waiver for this…. When I asked about the photos I was advised due to the wind there couldn’t be any taken?? It was 23 degrees and not windy as I was actually at the loch. My child wasn’t made to feel special at her party it felt like a school trip type of day. Even as far as travelling to and from she was in the back of the bus and two of her friends were in the front? Another example of my child not feeling special (as you should at your party)!
Then as we came back to change out of the wet suits bearing in mind I had 14 children and was still to do the birthday cake etc I was told I had to fix all of the wet suits ( I had already hung these up on hangers but apparently the were inside out)!! I payed nearly £350 for this experience and I felt it was just poor communication, and the leaders were not engaging with the children. The leaders only actually helped in the water, no other help was given. It was good if it was a school trip etc but not for a party.
The girls loved paddle boarding but i feel for the money spent I should have at least recieved something for my child to remember the day with her friends (at least a photo)

My 2 children (age 9 and 11) were booked for 2 days October week 2021. I’ve read the previous reviews and sadly I’m not sure what happened during my Childrens experience however they returned very upset and quite shaken by the experience. I contacted Westend immediately they returned however no one had the courtesy to get in touch with me or respond. My kids experience was such I cancelled the second day (losing £88). My children described an experience which resulted in one of the children seriously hurt. So much do mountain rescue we’re called and this girl broke her ankle/leg. My kids described instructors who in the way were twisting the steering wheel of the minibus saying ‘let’s party’ (my daughter has autism and vestibular issues which I highlighted to the instructors and gets travel sick. She was wearing her motion aids and was stick affected). There were no water activities, kayaking, paddle boarding therefore the request to bring a swim suit, towel and prepare for a wet suit was void. At the site the kids were told to leave their bags behind. They were not promoted or reminded to take midge repellent (my kids had theirs in their pack) so much so both kids were covered in bites upon return. We are seasoned walkers and walked the WHW peak midge season and my girls never had bites the way they returned from their WestEnd trip. Upon arriving at their ‘activity’ a walk in caves. The girls were taken (without torches/lights for them or instructors) to an area called ‘the coffin’ and were walking/climbing in darkness. My girls reported being quite terrified. It was here the girls fated fall happened. My kids said the instructors had no first aid kit, torches, emergency plan and the kids were waiting for at least 1/2 hours. My daughter was so shaken she called me to be told by the instructor to not tell me. This is not ok. The trip ended after this with waiting around. I am an experienced adventurer and risk assessment is key. Preparation is paramount. I simply would not risk a second day hence cancellation. My kids said the instructor verbalised he had never been on the walk before which in my experience with kids so young a ‘reiki’ and pre-planning essential. My daughters friend travelled 4 hours for the experience thinking it would be like a daytime ‘PGL’ my kids attend there often and are competent activity goers. They both were too frightened to return. The review is 0/5.

Really disappointed in Summer Camp. My son had been really looking forward to a week with this group especially the kayaking.
On collection, first thing is no one was checking kids were picked up off his bus (other buses were) so kids free to wander off with anyone or on own. I have been told this is not normally the case.

My son was visibly upset on getting off bus as he had been shouted at/told off when struggling and didn't want to return.

Received written apology a week later but no refund for remaining days just an offer of returning for free taster session.

Probably fine for kids who are already good at these activities but if your kid struggles and wants to try I would suggest booking a day activity and not full week or a session you can attend with them. Also, make sure you arrive early at pick up point.

Not sure if 12 year olds should be in the junior booking category. 3 days booked, 1st day climbing a hill and paddle boarding… enjoyed. 2nd day scavenger hunt which took all of 10 minutes for my lot and then spent rest of morning skimming stones on Loch!!!!! Stimulating -NO! Afternoon was kayaking and held back due younger individuals. 3rd day purely reverse of first day + lack of supervision or controlling behaviour as other boy was kept muscling in on my kids group causing angst. Not much if any supervision to stop demonstrated by staff. Perhaps senior group might have been better, who knows, but sadly unavailable when we booked. I guess ability to engage older kids with younger kids in the junior category needs extra effort as well us upping the supervision skill set might help with overall kids engagement and enjoyment.

Hi Evelyn, I'm so sorry to hear that this was the experience had by your group last week - it's certainly not the West End Adventure experience that we pride ourselves on. We are currently investigating the above and will be in touch shortly via email. If you need anything in the mean time, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Kindest Regards, Sian

My 7 year old had a hoot at 2 of their Easter Holiday adventure days. He loved paddle boarding, Bush activities and abseiling. The inclement weather in the first week was no barrier and the sunshine in the second week, served to make a great day even better. We will be back in the summer. Thank you.

My kids love WEA - it’s relaxed, friendly, great value, and offers an unrivalled opportunity for children to do a whole host of exciting outdoor activities. This week my 6 year old came home to tell me she’d been stand up paddle boarding, kayaking AND practicing archery - all in one day! The financial support received from Glasgow City Council also allows them to provide the kids with great food. A winner all round!

Great day, my daughter loved it. The camp has really improved since she last went. The new facilities are really good. The staff are very helpful and organised. My daughter was in the senior group and she went for Thursday and Friday. On the Thursday her group kayaked around Loch Lomond and went swimming and on the Friday they climbed Beinn Dubh and did a bit of bushcraft. Great two days!
