This bar is part of the MacDonald Hotel in St Andrews and has a great open glass view of the 17 and 18th holes at the famous St Andrews golf course.
Whilst enjoying drinks and nibbles from the comfy lounge chairs you can watch the rounds of golfers walk by and hit their way to the 18th hole.
You are right near the famous stone bridge as you walk to the last hole.
A nice location with professional staff to attend to you.
Limited selection of wines but there were plenty of whiskeys, gins etc.
Not cheap but given the location, understandable.

very average afternoon tea. Glad we had an Itison voucher. Not worth the full price. The waiter was very good and the view of the old course was excellent . Food was below par.

We had afternoon tea here 2 years before and although it was expensive it really was beautiful and the service was impeccable.
My parents also honeymooned here in 1960 so for my mother, it is a very special place.
I booked a table for afternoon tea as a treat for mum on Mother's Day. We arrived promptly and made our way to the bar area where we were served last time and were immediately told to make our way to the restaurant. We entered the restaurant and were told by a the waiter (who was on his mobile phone) to return to the bar and he would collect us when ready.
We waited and waited and eventually made our way back to the restaurant. Nobody came to collect us.
We were shown to a table next to the kitchen when everyone else sat by the window. The price quoted was more expensive than the website but I didn't want to embarrass mum by querying this.
After about a further 25 minute wait the afternoon tea came and it was pitiful. How they could charge the amount they did for what was offered was shameful.
I paid over £80.00 for two pots of tea, some tiny soggy sandwiches, a very small selection of cakes which were not very nice and 3 scones with some cream and not forgetting a soft drink each we were forced to order as we were waiting in another area for service that never came.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I paid the bill and left. My mother was very upset.
My daughter later phoned the hotel to lodge a complaint and spoke to the Restaurant Manager who said he would call her back in a few days. She is still waiting on the return call. I won't hold my breath as it was supposed to come over a week ago. I wanted to let the hotel deal with the complaint but they haven't, hence the review.
I expected much better from this place.

poor food with a 3 tier cake stand for 3 adults consisting of tiny fruit scones, tiny loaf cake things, 6 in number, and 2 small finger sandwiches each with poor fillings - tea and coffee served immediately with cake stand 20 mins later and had to ask for our champagne

Having booked a stay in January 2017 and being in St Andrews yesterday my wife and I decided to visit the hotel for some drinks and food. However after sitting in the bar area which is beautiful and being ignored by various bar staff and waiters for at least twenty minutes we decided to leave.we managed to get to the bar door and for the first timer he bar manager spoke and thanked us for coming. I informed him that we were leaving as his and his colleagues service was so poor and they had left us feeling invisible. At this point he turned his head away and couldn't even muster a suitable apology. Let's hope we are treated better in January. McDonald's hotels must be doing great that they can afford to turn away paying customers in this day and age.

Popped in during the afternoon had a nice drink and superb views over the course
Staff very attentive, and table snacks good, bit pricey but worth it as a bit different and away from the bustle outside

Called in here today using an Itison voucher for G&T battered fish and chips along with an Eden gin. Food was superb. Extremely busy but great service and loads of atmosphere.
Well worth a visit and will come back again when in StAndrews

After eating out, we decided to have a night cap at the rbar before calling it a night. The drinks were slightly overpriced but the staff more than made up for it. Zoe especially ensured a pleasant visit.

We made a day trip to St. Andrews and had booked lunch at the Russacks Hotel, which overlooks the 18th hole of the Old Course as well as the classic Royal & Ancient Golf Clubhouse. On a prior visit I knew that I wanted to someday return and dine with that view.
The view was spectacular. That was what we were there for. However, the food was a wonderful surprise. My wife ordered the smoked salmon platter and I had the smoked salmon croque madame. My wife's platter contained a very generous serving of perfectly smoked salmon. My croque madame was perhaps the best sandwich I have ever tasted. Service was excellent, with our server making great suggestions. The selection of single-malt scotch was outstanding. All of this with a view of the home of golf. It just can't get much better than that.
